Savukoski (; ; ) is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Lapland, Finland. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is , which is the lowest in relation to other Finnish municipalities. Neighbour municipalities are Pelkosenniemi, Salla and Sodankylä. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. According to Finnish folklore, the Korvatunturi Fell in Savukoski municipality is the location of Father Christmas's ( Joulupukki) secret workshop, where toys, trinkets and gifts are made and eventually wrapped by gnomes. The name Korvatunturi translates into English as "Ear Fell". Finnish children are told that from "Ear Fell" Father Christmas can hear what all the children are saying so he can find out if the children behave and obey their parents (and therefore may receive gifts next Christmas). Lapland (Finland)
Lapland is the largest and northernmost region of Finland. The 21 municipalities in the region cooperate in a Regional Council. Lapland borders the Finnish region of North Ostrobothnia in the south. Korvatunturi
Korvatunturi is a fell in Lapland, on the border between Finland and Russia. Its Finnish part is within Urho Kekkonen National Park in the municipality of Savukoski. In Finnish the name ''Korvatunturi'' means "Ear Fell", referring to the mountain's distinctive profile. Korvatunturi stands above sea level; it has three peaks, with the middle peak crossing Finland and Russia's borders. Since Korvatunturi straddles the border of the country, all visitors are required to obtain written permission from the Finnish Border Guard. There are also no roads that directly lead to the fell, but there are hike trails that provide access, such as the one found in the Savukoski area. Markus Mustajärvi
Markus Mustajärvi (born 24 February 1963) is a Finnish politician for the Left Alliance. He represented Lapland in the Parliament of Finland from 2003 until 2023. Life and career Mustajärvi was born in Savukoski, Lapland. He graduated as ylioppilas in 1982, forestry engineer in 1988 and Master of Social Sciences in 1993, the last degree being from the University of Jyväskylä. He was a member of the City Council of Kemijärvi until 2012 when he switched to Municipal Council of Savukoski. On 30 June 2011, Mustajärvi and fellow MP Jyrki Yrttiaho were expelled from the Left Alliance parliamentary group because they had voted for a motion of no confidence against the Katainen Cabinet in which the Left Alliance was represented. Seitajärvi ( ''seita'': a Sami sacred place + ''järvi'': lake) was a community located in the Savukoski municipality of Finland. In 1940 the Seitajärvi community included five farming and reindeer enterprises. On July 7, 1944, Seitajärvi suffered a devastating attack ( fi) by Soviet partisans. Pelkosenniemi () is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Lapland. The municipality has a population of (), which make it the smallest municipality in Lapland in terms of population. It covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Urho Kekkonen National Park (, , often abbreviated to ''UKK'') is a national park in Lapland, Finland, situated in area of municipalities of Savukoski, Sodankylä and Inari. Established in 1983 and covering , it is one of Finland's largest protected areas. It is named after Urho Kekkonen, late President and Prime Minister of Finland. Salla, known as Kuolajärvi until 1936, is a municipality of Finland, located in Lapland. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The nearby settlement of Sallatunturi is home to the Salla Ski Resort. History Salla is in the Eastern Lapland and as a border area was affected by the Second World War. Sodankylä (; ; ; ) is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the region of Lapland, and lies at the northern end of Highway 5 ( E63) and along Highway 4 ( E75).
