Savino Pezzotta
Savino Pezzotta (born 25 December 1943) is an Italian politician and trade unionist. Trade unionist Pezzotta was a textile worker since 1959. In 1963, he joined the Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions (CISL) and later became a trade union organizer. In 1972, he joined the Workers' Political Movement, a group of progressive left-wing Catholics, and was a candidate for the Movement in the general election of 1972, obtaining 117 votes. After the small movement disappeared, he dedicated himself to trade union activity. From 1993 to 1998, he was regional secretary of the CISL in Lombardy. In 1999, he joined the union's national leadership, and was elected its secretary-general one year later. He resigned this post after the general elections of 2006. 2006 Italian General Election
The 2006 Italian general election was held on 9 and 10 April 2006. Romano Prodi, leader of the centre-left coalition The Union, narrowly defeated the incumbent Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the centre-right coalition House of Freedoms. Initial exit polls suggested a victory for Prodi, but the results narrowed as the count progressed. On 11 April 2006, Prodi declared victory; Berlusconi never conceded defeat and an ensuing dispute formed. Preliminary results showed The Union leading the House of Freedoms in the Chamber of Deputies, with 340 seats to 277, thanks to obtaining a majority bonus (actual votes were distributed 49.81% to 49.74%). One more seat is allied with The Union (Aosta Valley) and 7 more seats in the foreign constituency. Mario Baccini (born 14 December 1957 in Rome) is an Italian politician, former member of the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats and promoter of the White Rose. Biography He started his political activity as town councilor in Rome, for the Christian Democracy party (DC). In 1994, when DC disbanded, he joined the Christian Democratic Centre, which entered the Pole of Freedoms. In the same year, he became president of the Christian Democratic Centre (CCD) parliamentary group at the Chamber of Deputies. Sergio Antonio D'Antoni (born 10 December 1946 in Caltanissetta) is an Italian politician, syndicalist and sports manager, current President of CONI Sicilia. Biography Graduated in law, D'Antoni became a researcher at the University of Palermo. He joined the Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions (CISL) in the early 1970s, becoming finally its General Secretary in 1991. He remained leader of the CISL until 2000, furthermore he has been member of the National Council for Economics and Labour (CNEL) from 1991 to 1999.
