Satyapriya Roy
Satyapriya Roy (1907–1978) was a politician belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). A prominent leader of the teacher's movement. He was the General Secretary of the All Bengal Teachers Association from 1953 to 1964. He was the education minister in the West Bengal Government during the second Mukherjee ministry. History Satyapriya Roy was born on March 1, 1907, in a well-to-do family at Singai in what is now Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. Graduated with English Honors from Anand Mohan College, Mymensingh. In 1927, he completed his master's degree in English from Dhaka University. Also received excellency in Bachelor of Teaching examination (later renamed as Bachelor of Education). Had an excellent academic career, he passed the All India Police Service Examination, but did not take any position in the police department. Government Ananda Mohan College is a higher secondary school and National University, Bangladesh affiliated college in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. One of the oldest educational premises in South Asia, the institute was established in 1883 by Ananda Mohan Bose as City Collegiate School during British Raj. History Anandamohan Bose, who founded the City College in 1878, decided to open a branch of it at his home town in Mymensingh. Niranjan Sengupta (26 July 1904 - 4 September 1969) was a Bengali Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter. He was a leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist). Revolutionary activities The first elected student union in India was at Ripon College with Niranjan Sengupta as its president. Niranjan was a leader of the Barisal branch of Dhaka Anushilan Samiti. In 1929, he was one of the leaders who led to the formation of the neo-violence confederation. In 1930, in connection with the Mechuabazar Bomb Case, he got arrested with 23 others.
