Second Mukherjee Ministry
The Second Ajoy Mukherjee ministry was the coalition government that ruled the Indian state of West Bengal for 13 months, 1969–1970. The Second United Front Cabinet was formed after the 1967 First United Front Cabinet had been dismissed in 1967, President's Rule introduced and a mid-term election held in 1969. The United Front got a renewed popular mandate in the 1969 election, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) calling the shots but with a non-leftist Chief Minister. The 13-month reign of the Second United Front Cabinet was marked by the struggle for comprehensive land reform, labour disputes, political violence and coalition infighting. Sambhu Ghosh
Sambhu Charan Ghosh (10 June 1927 – 15 June 1986) was an Indian politician and scholar, belonging to the All India Forward Bloc. He was a member of the Central Committee of the party. Biography Ghosh was born on 10 June 1927. He was the son of Nityananda Ghosh. He was married to Chitra Ghosh and they had their only son namely Ritabrata Ghosh. Ghosh obtained B.Sc., B.A. and M.A. degrees from Calcutta University. As a student he became a follower of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He took up a position as lecturer of philosophy at Uluberia College. He took part in the Indian struggle for independence and in 1944 he became a member of the All India Forward Bloc. Golam Yazdani
Dr. Golam Yazdani (1917–2009) was a controversial Bengali politician, six-time MLA, three-time MP and cabinet minister in West Bengal. He was in jail for around three years and went underground for twenty months. Early years Dr. Golam Yazdani, son of Moulvi Raisuddin Ahmed, was born at Barogachi in Malda district in January 1917. Lok Sewak Sangh
The Lok Sewak Sangh ('Union of Servants of the People', abbreviated LSS), or Manbhum Lok Sewak Sangh, was a political party in Purulia District, West Bengal, India. LSS was founded in 1948. The party was the main political force in Purulia District from the independence of India until the fall of the second United Front cabinet. It is not to be confused with the Gandhian social movement by the same name. Somnath Lahiri
Somnath Lahiri (1 September 1909 – 19 October 1984) was an Indian statesman, writer and a leader of Communist Party of India. He was a member of Constituent Assembly of India from Bengal. He was later elected as a Member of West Bengal Legislative assembly from 1957 to 1977 and also served as a minister between 1967 and 1970. Krishnapada Ghosh
Krishnapada Ghosh (1914–1987) was an Indian politician and trade unionist. He served as West Bengal Minister of Labour 1969–1970 and 1977–1985. He was a Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was also a member of the Working Committee of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions. Bhakti Bhushan Mandal (1920 – 30 August 2004) was an Indian politician belonging to the All India Forward Bloc. Biswanath Mukherjee (17 April 1915 – 16 October 1991) was an Indian politician and leader of Communist Party of India. Workers Party of India is a political party in the Indian state of West Bengal. WPI has its origin in the Democratic Vanguard in India. Jyotibhushan Bhattacharya
Professor Jyotibhushan Bhattacharya (1 May 1926 – 1998) was an Indian politician and scholar. He served as general secretary of the Workers Party of India. He served as a Minister in both of the United Front governments in West Bengal. Youth Bhattacharya was born on 1 May 1926.
