Satan's Slaves
''Satan's Slaves'' ( id, Pengabdi Setan) is a 2017 Indonesian gothic horror film written and directed by Joko Anwar. It is a loose remake- prequel to the 1980 film of the same name directed by Sisworo Gautama Putra based on a story by Subagio S. The plot follows a family who are haunted by the death of their mother, who dies after being bedridden for three years from a strange and debilitating illness. As of November 7, 2017, the movie has been watched by 4.2 million moviegoers, making ''Pengabdi Setan'' the highest-grossing domestic Indonesian film of 2017. The movie was released in a total of 42 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Germany, and the United States. A sequel, '' Satan's Slaves 2: Communion'', was released in August 2022. Joko Anwar
Joko Anwar (born 3 January 1976) is an Indonesian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, he worked as a journalist and film critic. Anwar first rose to prominence for co-writing Nia Dinata's 2003 hit ''Arisan!'' which won five awards at the 2004 Citra Award. He then made his feature film directorial debut with the romantic comedy ''Joni's Promise'' in 2005, gaining a Best Director nomination at the 2005 Citra Award. Rappler (portmanteau of the words "rap" and "ripple") is a Filipino online news website based in Pasig, Metro Manila, the Philippines.
