Sassello
Sassello ( lij, Sascello; locally ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Savona in the Italian region Liguria, located about west of Genoa and about north of Savona in the northern side of the Ligurian Apennines. It is the birthplace of Blessed Chiara Badano. Part of Sassello's territory lies within the boundaries of the Parco naturale regionale del Beigua. History Little is known of pre-historic and even medieval events before 1000 AD, although the area has certainly been visited - if not inhabited - by stone age humans, as evidenced by tools and weapons found locally. Livy reports the presence of the Statielli, a Ligurian tribe, not far from Sassello in present-day Acqui Terme. Sassello is first mentioned in 967 AD in an Imperial bull which attached it to the Marquesate of Aleram. Chiara Badano
Chiara Badano (October 29, 1971 – October 7, 1990) was a young Italian teenager who is on the path to sainthood in the Catholic Church. At age nine she joined the Focolare Movement and received the nickname "Luce" (light) by the founder Chiara Lubich. When she was 16, she was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, a painful bone cancer. Chiara succumbed to the cancer on October 7, 1990, after a two-year battle with the disease. She was beatified on September 25, 2010, at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Divine Love in Rome. Her feast day is celebrated on October 29. Early life Chiara Badano was born on October 29, 1971, to Ruggero and Maria Teresa Badano in the small village of Sassello, Italy. Lago Dell'Antenna
Lago dell'Antenna is an artificial lake in north-west Italy, located in the Genoa (Liguria). Concerned comunes are Urbe and Sassello. Geography The lake was created by blocking the Orba with a dam about two kilometres upstream of San Pietro d' Urbe, in oder to produce electricity. Its name comes from Monte Antenna (821 m), a mountain which overlooks the left banks of the lake. The right banks of the reservoir are flanked by the provincial road nr. 40 ''Urbe - Vara - Passo del Faiallo'' and from ''Bric del Sozzo'' (650 m). The lake is located on the northern border of Parco naturale regionale del Beigua, which encompasses its left shore. Monte Beigua (also in Ligurian: ''Monte Peigoa'') is a mountain in the Ligurian Apennines in Liguria, northern Italy, between the two communes of Varazze and Sassello. Les Alqueries () is a town in eastern Spain, in the province of Castellón, part of the autonomous community of Valencia. Economy is based on agriculture, specializing in growing oranges. Parco Naturale Regionale Del Beigua
The Beigua Natural Regional Park (in Italian ''Parco naturale regionale del Beigua'') is a natural park located in province of Savona and the Metropolitan City of Genoa, both in Liguria (Italy).
