''Bidasari'' is a 1965 Malaysian-Singaporean black-and-white romantic-drama film starring Jins Shamsuddin and Sarimah. The film is notable for having dialogue that is written almost completely as rhyming poetry. The story is based on ''Syair Bidasari'', a very popular romantic Malay poem during 18th and 19th century in the Malay world believed to be written as early as 1750. ''Ibu Mertuaku'' (literally "My Mother In-Law") is a 1962 Singaporean melodrama film directed by and starring silver-screen legend P. Ramlee. The film's story revolves around the tragic love affair between Kassim Selamat, a poor musician, and Sabariah, the only daughter of a wealthy woman. Haji Bakhil is alone and depressed, but eventually meets a beautiful young woman named Murni or Murniyati Haji Ibrahim(Murni Sarawak), who is a teacher at a school for orphans. Haji Bakhil (Udo Umar) spends some time pursuing her, and his attention is apparently not unwelcome.
