Sargon Gabriel
Sargon Gabriel (Syriac: ܣܪܓܘܢ ܓܒܪܐܝܠ) is an Assyrian musician born in Habbaniyah, Iraq, whose music style usually involves traditional Assyrian folk music with the instruments, '' zurna'' and '' dawoola''. The singer currently resides in Chicago, Illinois. Some of his notable writers of his songs include Adwar Mousa. History Sargon Gabriel began singing as a teenager and made his first appearance on live television at the age 17 in Baghdad, Iraq. He began singing backup on albums for another Assyrian singer, Albert Ruel Tamras, before starting his career as a solo singer and even did a cover of Albert Ruel Tamras's famous song, "''Asmar, Asmar''" in his 1987 album entitled '' Way Way Minnakh''. Sargon Gabriel has also been featured singing with other famous Assyrian singers including Linda George, and Janan Sawa; in fact, he helped bolster Linda George's singing career when he featured her in the track, "''Dalale''" in his album of the same name released in 1981. Al Habbaniyah or Habbaniya ( ar, ٱلْحَبَّانِيَّة, ''al-Ḥabbānīyah'') is a city 85 km (53 mi) west of Baghdad in Al-Anbar Province, in central Iraq. A military airfield, RAF Habbaniya, was the site of a battle in 1941, during World War II. Lake Habbaniyah is also nearby. Janan Sawa
Janan Sawa (born 1956 in Dohuk, Iraq) ( syr, ܔܢܐܢ ܒܒܐ ܣܒ݂ܐ) is an Assyrian musician who is noted for making Assyrian folk dance. Janan started singing in 1972, at the age of 17. Janan has performed throughout the world, and has visited his hometown of Duhok in Iraq on many occasions. Biography In 1975, Janan's father forced him to marry. He spent 4 years in the Iraqi army, from 1974 to 1978. In 1980, Janan fled Iraq and settled in Greece for 2 years. He finally left for the United States in 1982, where he remains a resident. After arriving in the U.S., Janan worked as a taxicab driver for 2 years. In 1984, he was hired by a restaurant to sing on a nightly basis. In 1985, he recorded his first studio album, named "Nohadra", the Assyrian name for his hometown, Dohuk. The album ultimately established his professional singing career, and until this date Janan has released over 25 albums and recorded close to 200 songs. Ganta, also known as Gompa City, is a town approximately from Monrovia in Nimba County of northern Liberia. It is located just south of the Guinea border. It is the second-most populous city in Liberia, with an estimated population of 41,106 as of 2008.
