Sardegna Digital Library
The Sardegna Digital Library (SDL) is an online digital library created and managed by the Council of the Sardinia Region. The site was designed and created during the period when it was governor of the Sardinia region Renato Soru, and was put online in April 2008. The library is made up of multimedia materials designed to represent Sardinia in its many aspects: cultural, historical, artistic, landscape and environmental. The Digital Library is a portal containing a constantly updated archive of digital contents of the Sardinia Region. For the first time, an institution makes available online a consistent variety of cataloged multimedia documents. The contents come from the regional thematic sites and from Italian national archives: among these ISRE, Istituto Luce, Rai and from individual contributions by Sardinian authors. Renato Soru
Renato Soru (born 6 August 1957) is an Italian politician and entrepreneur. He is the founder of the internet service company Tiscali, based in Cagliari. ''Forbes'' listed Soru as one of the world's richest people, with a net worth of over $4 billion (US) as of September 2001. Early life and career Soru was born in Sanluri, Sardinia, in 1957. He holds a University degree from the Bocconi University in Milan. In 2004, Soru was elected the president of Sardinia with the centre-left coalition with an audacious program to reinvigorate the economy within the island by introducing external investors. The Istituto superiore regionale etnografico (ISRE; English: ''Sardinian Regional Institute of Ethnography'') is an institution based in Nuoro (Sardinia), established in 1972 by the Regional Council of Sardinia. The Istituto Luce (translation: "Light Institute", with Luce being the acronym for "L’Unione Cinematografica Educativa", i.e. "The Educational Film Union") was an Italian film corporation, created in 1924 during the Fascist era.
