Sarah Anne Langton
Sarah Anne Langton is a British artist and graphic designer specialising in science fiction and fantasy illustration. She won the 2016 BSFA Award for Best Artwork for her cover of ''Central Station'' by Lavie Tidhar, and is a three-times British Fantasy Award nominee for Best Artist. Langton created the "Pickwick the Dodo" logo for the Hodderscape list of Hodder & Stoughton, and illustrated the 12pp comics ''New Swabia'' by Lavie Tidhar (in ''Outside'', Topics Press 2017). She was a Guest of Honour at the 2017 Bristolcon, an annual SF convention in Bristol. Fantasy
Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction involving Magic (supernatural), magical elements, typically set in a fictional universe and sometimes inspired by mythology and folklore. Its roots are in oral traditions, which then became fantasy literature and drama. From the twentieth century, it has expanded further into various media, including film, television, graphic novels, manga, animations and video games. Fantasy is distinguished from the genres of science fiction and horror fiction, horror by the respective absence of scientific or macabre themes, although these genres overlap. BSFA Award
The BSFA Awards are literary awards presented annually since 1970 by the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) to honour works in the genre of science fiction. Nominees and winners are chosen based on a vote of BSFA members. More recently, members of the Eastercon convention have also been eligible to vote. BSFA Award categories The award originally included only a category for novels. Categories for short works and artists were added in 1980. The category for younger readers was added in 2021. The artists category became artwork in 1986 and a category for related non-fiction was added in 2002. A media category was awarded from 1979 to 1992. The ceremonies are named after the year that the eligible works were published, despite the awards being given out in the next year. Lavie Tidhar
Lavie Tidhar ( he, לביא תדהר; born 16 November 1976) is an Israeli-born writer, working across multiple genres. He has lived in the United Kingdom and South Africa for long periods of time, as well as Laos and Vanuatu. As of 2013, Tidhar lives in London. His novel '' Osama'' won the 2012 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, beating Stephen King's '' 11/22/63'' and George R. R. Martin's ''A Dance with Dragons''. His novel '' A Man Lies Dreaming'' won the £5000 Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize, for Best British Fiction, in 2015. He won the John W. The British Fantasy Awards (BFA) are awarded annually by the British Fantasy Society (BFS), first in 1976. Prior to that they were known as The August Derleth Fantasy Awards (see August Derleth Award). Hodder & Stoughton is a British publishing house, now an imprint (trade name), imprint of Hachette (publisher), Hachette. History Early history The firm has its origins in the 1840s, with Matthew Hodder's employment, aged 14, with Messrs Jackson and Walford, the official publisher for the Congregational church, Congregational Union. Chesley Awards
The Chesley Awards were established in 1985 by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists to recognize individual artistic works and achievements during a given year. The Chesleys were initially called the ASFA Awards, but were later renamed to honor famed astronomical artist Chesley Bonestell following his death in 1986. The awards are presented annually, typically at the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon). Rebecca Levene
Rebecca Levene is a British author and editor. She is the author of ''The Hollow Gods'' fantasy novel series. In the 1990s, she was an editor at Virgin Books, including notably of the New Adventures series. Biography Levene had a sitcom optioned, but never produced by the BBC. Her first novel, '' Where Angels Fear'', was co-written with Simon Winstone, her deputy and successor on the New Adventures. More recently, she has written for publisher Black Flame, including a ''Strontium Dog'' novel ''Bad Timing'' and a ''Final Destination'' novel ''End of the Line''.
