Sara Mérida
Sara Mérida Pérez (born 8 April 1993) is a Spanish retired footballer who last played for RCD Espanyol. Debuting as a teenager with Espanyol, she won the Copa de la Reina twice and the Copa Catalunya once. As a youth international with Spain she won the U-17 Euro and came third at the U-17 World Cup in 2010. Despite youth success, she retired age 21 after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament four times, and became a physiotherapist and coach. She is currently the head coach of women's team CE Europa B. Early and personal life Sara Mérida Pérez was born in Barcelona on 8 April 1993. Having grown up playing football with her older brother, fellow player Fran Mérida, she joined Santa Eulalia – the boys' team Fran had first played at – when she was nine, staying until she was eleven. The 2012 Copa de la Reina de Fútbol was the 30th edition of the Spanish women's football national cup. It took place between 8 and 10 June in RFEF's Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, and it was contested following the end of the 2011–12 Primera División as a final four by the top four teams in the table, a major cut from the previous edition's fourteen contestants. On April 8, defending champion Barcelona became the first team to qualify for the competition. Athletic Club and Espanyol also qualified in subsequent weeks, and Rayo Vallecano clinched the last spot by earning a 1–1 draw against contender Levante in the final date. An anterior cruciate ligament injury occurs when the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is either stretched, partially torn, or completely torn. The most common injury is a complete tear. Rayo Vallecano Femenino is the women's football section of Madrid-based club Rayo Vallecano, currently playing in the Primera Federación. Between 2008 and 2011 it won three national championships and one national cup. History Rayo Vallecano established its women's team in 2000, absorbing local club CD El Buen Retiro. 2009–10 Superliga Femenina
The 2009–10 Superliga season was the 22nd since its establishment. Rayo Vallecano were the defending champions, having won their title in the previous season. League expansion and format changes On 26 May 2009, the Royal Spanish Football Federation presented a project to improve the Superliga, based in an expansion of the league from 16 to 24 teams, by inviting professional men's teams to join the tournament. Eight teams agreed to join the league: two of them from La Liga (Sevilla and Valladolid), four from Segunda División (Las Palmas, Murcia, Gimnàstic and Eibar), one of Segunda División B (Jaén) and one from Tercera División (Cacereño).
