Sanxia District () is a District (Taiwan), district in the southwestern part of New Taipei, Taiwan. It is the second largest district in New Taipei City by area after Wulai District. Name The old name of Sanxia, ''Sa-kak-eng'' () refers to the meeting of the Dahan River, Sanxia River, and . In 1920, Taiwan under Japanese rule, Taiwan's Japanese government administratively designated the town as , Kaizan District, Taihoku Prefecture. History After the first coffee plants on Taiwan were imported by the British to Tainan in 1884, the first significant small-scale cultivation took place in Sanxia District. On December 25, 2010, Sanxia Township was upgraded to Sanxia District after the upgrade of New Taipei City#History, Taipei County. Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipalities of the second level and provincial cities of the third level formerly under its provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme. Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government with district administrators appointed by the mayors to four-year terms. Manyueyuan National Forest Recreation Area () is a forest located in Sanxia District, New Taipei, Taiwan. Geology The forest spans over an area of 637 hectares at an elevation of 300–1,700 meters with an annual mean temperature of 19.9°C. The northern part of the forest shares a border with Mount Beichatian (). Facilities The forest consists of a walking trail connected to Dongyanshan Forest Recreation Area with an length of 1,727 meters. It has campsites at the base of Mount Beichatian. The Sanxia History Museum () is a museum of local history in Sanxia District, New Taipei, Taiwan. History The museum building was originally built as the township office during the Japanese rule in 1929. The reconstruction process to make the museum from the former building started in 1999 for 4 years. Architecture The museum is a two-story building. Sanxia Old Street
The Sanxia Old Street () is centered on Minquan Street in Sanxia District, New Taipei, Taiwan. History A renovation work was carried out starting in 2004 and completed in 2007 to restore the buildings along the street to their early 20th century style. It also includes the establishment of the management committee of the old street. Architecture The street spans over a length of 200 meters. Li Mei-shu
Li Mei-shu () (13 March 1902 – 6 February 1983) was a Taiwanese painter, sculptor, and politician. Born to an upper-class family in Sankakuyū (), Japanese Taiwan (modern-day Sanxia District, New Taipei City). Education Li Meishu began to demonstrate a propensity for painting in his early years. In 1918, he was accepted into the Painting Division of the Taiwan Governor-General's National Language School. He taught himself painting after school through a copy of A Collection of Lectures, which he ordered from Japan through post. Upon graduating, he taught at Zuihō Public School (in modern-day Ruifang District). During this time, he participated in the Summer Art Seminar organized by Ishikawa Kinichiro. His works 'Still Life and Backstreets of Sanxia' were selected for the first and second Taiwan Art Exhibitions (Taiten), respectively.
