Santos Dumont (formerly known as Palmira) is a municipality in southern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The population (2020) is estimated to be 46,421 and the total area of the municipality is . It lies at an elevation of just off the main interstate highway, BR040, between the urban centers of Barbacena (north) and Juiz de Fora (south). It is from the state capital, Belo Horizonte, and from Rio de Janeiro. It became a city in 1889. Barbacena
Barbacena is a municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As of 2020, the municipality had 138,204 inhabitants. The total area of the municipality is . Barbacena is known for its strong Italian influence. The Rodrigo Silva Colonial Nucleus was established in the late 19th century, and the immigration process lasted until the early 20th century. Most of the immigrants came from the Veneto region. Currently, Rodrigo Silva colonial nucleus is part of the territory of the city of Antônio Carlos (separated from Barbacena in 1948) and of the homonymous neighborhood "Colônia". Alberto Santos-Dumont (self-stylised as Alberto Santos=Dumont; 20 July 1873 – 23 July 1932) was a Brazilian aeronaut, sportsman, inventor, and one of the few people to have contributed significantly to the early development of both lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air aircraft. Cabangu Museum
The Cabangu Museum () is a museum in the town of Santos Dumont, Brazil. It is dedicated to the memory of Santos Dumont, the "Father of Aviation". In the house, personal objects, photos and the aviation museum are still preserved. In the Museum are also deposited the ashes of the first woman pilot of the Brazilian aviation, Anésia Pinheiro Machado.
