It lies at an elevation of just off the main interstate highway, BR040, between the urban centers of Barbacena (north) and Juiz de Fora (south). It is from the state capital, Belo Horizonte, and from Rio de Janeiro. It became a city in 1889. Barbacena is a municipality in the States of Brazil, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As of 2020, the municipality had 138,204 inhabitants. The total area of the municipality is . It is in the foothills of the Serra da Mantiqueira south of the state capital Belo Horizonte at an elevation of , making it one of the ten highest cities in Brazil. Mineiro (), Mineirês, or the Brazilian mountain dialect ( pt, montanhês), is the Brazilian Portuguese term for the characteristic accent spoken in the heart of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and also in its capital, Belo Horizonte, and its historical cities (Ouro Preto, Mariana, Sabará, Diamantina, Tiradentes, São João del-Rei etc.). Alberto Santos-Dumont ( Palmira, 20 July 1873 — Guarujá, 23 July 1932) was a Brazilian aeronaut, sportsman, inventor, and one of the few people to have contributed significantly to the early development of both lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air aircraft. The heir of a wealthy family of coffee producers, he dedicated himself to aeronautical study and experimentation in Paris, where he spent most of his adult life. The Cabangu Museum ( pt, Museu de Cabangu) is a museum in the town of Santos Dumont, Brazil. It is dedicated to the memory of Santos Dumont, the "Father of Aviation". In the house, personal objects, photos and the aviation museum are still preserved.
