Our Lady of Graces (Italian: ''Madonna delle Grazie'' or ''Nostra Signora delle Grazie'') or Saint Mary of Graces (Italian: ''Santa Maria delle Grazie'') is a devotion to the Virgin Mary in the Roman Catholic Church. Several churches with this dedication often owe their foundation to thankfulness for graces received from the Virgin Mary, and are particularly numerous in Italy, India, Australia, United States, Portugal, France and the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. Also it is related to the Marian apparitions in which was revealed the Miraculous Medal, also known as the ''Medal of Our Lady of Graces''. The Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie is a Roman Catholic church and Franciscan convent located in the frazione of Ponticelli within the town limits of Scandriglia, province of Rieti, region of Lazio, Italy. It is presently still a Franciscan monastery, with support of the ''Fondo Edifici di Culto'' of the Interior Ministry. History and description The convent was completed in 1478 under the patronage of Raimondo Orsini, Duke of Gravina and Count of Neroli, in gratitude for the recuperation of his ill son by interventions of the franciscan blessed Amadeo Menezes de Sylva. Located in Ponticelli Sabino, the place was also chosen due to the presence of a venerated 15th-century icon of the Madonna and child (Santa Maria delle Grazie), derived from the nearby Castello di Neroli. Santa Maria delle Grazie Maggiore a Caponapoli or Santa Maria delle Grazie Maggiore is a church located in the historic center of Naples, Italy. History Work on the church and adjacent monastery began in 1447, inspired by the beatified Pietro da Pisa. The church was completed in 1473, but from 1516 to 1535 it underwent reconstruction, including the portal by Giovanni Francesco di Palma. Further reconstruction occurred in the 18th century. During the second half of the 18th century, it was a secret meeting place for members of Free Masonry, supposedly sponsored by the monk Serafino Pinzone (who was accused of revolutionary Jacobin leanings in 1794). In 1809, the church was suppressed, and in 1933 joined to the Hospital of Incurables (Ospedale degli Incurabili) under the original order of the monastery. Santa Maria delle Grazie di Montevergine (Holy Mary of the Graces) is a Baroque architecture, Baroque deconsecrated church in Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. It is located on piazetta Montervergini. The church now functions as a theater: Teatro Nuovo Montevergini. The present edifice was constructed in 1698 to replace a smaller church from the 15th century. It was property of the adjacent former cloistered female Clarissan convent; the site of that former monastery is now the Institute "Filippo Parlatore" designed in the 19th century by Lorenzo Ciprì. The facade of the church was designed by A. Palma (1644-1730). The facade has two statues depicting Saints Clare and Rosalia. Santa Maria delle Grazie is a Roman Catholic church located on Via Toledo, near its intersection with Via Diaz Armando, in central Naples, Italy. facade History The church was built in 1628 by the Theatine Order, and initially dedicated to the Virgin of Loreto. In 1721 there was a partial reconstruction. In 1806, the Theatines were suppressed and it acquired secular use. Santa Maria delle Grazie a Mondragone is a small now-deconsecrated Roman Catholic church building on Piazzeta Mondragone in central Naples, Italy. History In 1653, a church and an adjacent retirement home for noble widows, were commissioned here by Princess Elena Aldobrandini (1580-1663), wife of Duke of Mondragone. The buildings were damaged during the earthquake of 1688 and 1732, and various reconstructions followed, using plans by Arcangelo Guglielmelli (1648-1723), who received his commission in 1715. Guglielmelli is known for his centralized design of the church of Santa Maria del Rosario alle Pigne near Piazza Cavour in central Naples. The work was completed, including interior decoration by Giovanni Battista Nauclerio (1666-1739) after Guglielmelli's death. Santa Maria delle Grazie is a 17th-century Baroque-style, Roman Catholic church and convent located just outside the city of Senigallia, region of Marche, Italy. History The church was commissioned in 1494 by the local lord Giovanni Della Rovere, as a votive offering after the birth of his son on March 25, 1490, and placed in hands of the Franciscan order. The birth of Francesco Maria I della Rovere, future Duke of Urbino, on the day of the Annunciation which is recorded in a small bas-relief in the entrance to the cloister.
