Vila Mariana () is a borough of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Located to the south of Bela Vista and Liberdade, east of Jardim Paulista and west of Ipiranga, it's a dynamic area of the city. Line 5 (São Paulo Metro)
Line 5 (Lilac) ( pt, Linha 5–Lilás) is one of the six lines that make up the São Paulo Metro and one of the 13 lines that make up the Metropolitan Rail Transportation Network. The line transports about 600,000 people every business day, and since August 2018 it is operated by the private company ViaMobilidade. The southern section of the line, between Largo Treze and Capão Redondo was completed in 2002 and was envisioned as a railway line of the CPTM called Line G. The project was transferred to the São Paulo Metro and renamed to Line 5 - Lilac. A northern extension connecting it with the rest of the São Paulo Metro network started construction 2009 with a completion deadline of 2013. The project stalled due to issues with property acquisition and restarted in 2011. The completion deadline of the extension has been delayed several times, but it has been reached on 8 April 2019. Bilhete Único (''Unified Ticket'') is the name of the São Paulo transportation contactless smart card system for fare control. Using Philips Mifare technology, the ticketing system is managed by SPTrans (São Paulo Transporte S/A), the city bus transportation authority, which is controlled by the municipal government. (SPTrans) (English: São Paulo Transport), is the name adopted on March 8, 1995 by the municipal local government which aims to manage the public transport system with buses in São Paulo. Until 1995, it was known as ', which, when translated from Portuguese to English, it is the ''Municipal Public Transport Company''. All bus lines are operated by concessionaires under the supervision of SPTrans, providing business planning and management of public transport. Line 1 (Blue) ( pt, Linha 1–Azul) is one of the six lines that make up the São Paulo Metro and one of the thirteen lines that make up the Metropolitan Rail Transportation Network. It was the first line built for the São Paulo Metro and also the first metro line built in Brazil. It links Tucuruvi Station to Jabaquara Station. Construction began in the late 1960s and was completed in the early 1970s. History Originally called North-South Line, line 1 began construction on December 14, 1968. Commercial operation began September 14, 1974, with trains running in the first seven kilometers between Jabaquara and Vila Mariana stations.
