Santa Claus, Indiana
Santa Claus is a town in Spencer County, Indiana, United States, in the southwestern part of the state. Located in Carter, Clay and Harrison Townships, it sits between Interstate 64 and the Ohio River and Owensboro. The population was 2,481 at the 2010 census, making it the largest community in Spencer County. The town was established in 1854 and known as Santa Fe (). In 1856, when the town was working to establish a post office, the Post Office Department refused their first application as there was already a Santa Fe, Indiana established with the Post Office Department. Several town meetings were held, during which the name ''Santa Claus'' was selected. The town has the world's only post office to bear the name of the eponymous Christmas figure. Because of this popular name, the post office receives thousands of letters to Santa from all over the world each year. Santa's Candy Castle
Santa's Candy Castle, located in Santa Claus, Indiana, is a tourist attraction that uses the traditions and decorations from Christmas as its theme. Dedicated on December 22, 1935, the castle was originally sponsored by the Curtiss Candy Company of Chicago, creators of the Baby Ruth and Butterfinger candy bars. Designed by artist Emil Straus, the red-brick building has all the elements of a castle including a crenellated tower, a turret, and a rotunda. Santa Claus Town was the vision of Vincennes entrepreneur Milton Harris, who saw the potential of Santa Claus, Indiana’s unique name after its post office had been featured in Robert Ripley’s famous Believe It or Not cartoon. South Spencer High School
South Spencer High School is a public high school in Reo, Indiana. The school educates about 471 students in grades 9 to 12 in the South Spencer School Corporation district. Athletics The school's athletic nickname is the "Rebels", and it participates in the Pocket Athletic Conference. Heritage Hills High School is a public high school located in Lincoln City, Indiana, United States. It serves students in grades 9-12 for the North Spencer School Corporation. History The board of trustees of the North Spencer County School Corporation selected the name for a new high school in November 1971. Heritage Hills High School in Lincoln City, Indiana, was established in 1972, combining Dale High School with Chrisney High School. Students from Dale and Chrisney merged in the new building that opened in January 1973 and was dedicated in November that year.
