Sanghapali Aruna
Sanghapali Aruna, also known as Sanghapali Aruna Lohitakshi, is a human rights activist from India, best known for her work on Dalit women's rights. She is the Executive Director of Project Mukti. Life Aruna was born on 19 October 1979 in Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, in a Dalit community. She studied for a doctorate degree in linguistics at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, where she was a founder member of the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students’ Association. In 2014, Aruna was part of the Dalit Mahila Swabhiman Yatra (Dalit Women's Self-Respect Tour) travelling through India to raise awareness of caste-based violence, and was part of the Dalit Women Fight campaign in 2015. She was also involved in activism surrounding Dalit student Rohith Vemula’s death at the University of Hyderabad. She was also organiser of Dalit History Month. Bahujan
''Bahujan'' is a Pali term frequently found in Buddhist texts, with a literal meaning of "the many", or "the majority". In a modern context, it refers to the combined population of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Muslims, and minorities, who together constitute the demographic majority of India. The word ''bahujan'' appears in the dictum "Bahujana sukhaya bahujana hitaya cha" ("for the happiness of the many, for the welfare of the many"), articulated by Gautama Buddha. Dalit (from sa, दलित, dalita meaning "broken/scattered"), also previously known as untouchable, is the lowest stratum of the Caste system in India, castes in India. Adivasi
The Adivasi refers to inhabitants of Indian subcontinent, generally tribal people. The term is a Sanskrit word coined in the 1930s by political activists to give the tribal people an indigenous identity by claiming an indigenous origin. The term is also used for ethnic minorities, such as Chakmas of Bangladesh, Khas of Nepal, and Vedda of Sri Lanka. The Constitution of India does not use the word ''Adivasi'', instead referring to Scheduled Tribes and Janjati. The government of India does not officially recognise tribes as indigenous people.
