Sangaree (film)
''Sangaree'' is a 1953 American 3-D color period costume drama film by director Edward Ludwig. It was adapted from the 1948 novel of the same name by Frank G. Slaughter. The film stars Fernando Lamas and Arlene Dahl. The film is set during the American Revolution and focuses on an indentured servant, Dr. Carlos Morales, who rises to power in the state of Georgia. It was Paramount's first 3-Dimensional film release. Plot On his death bed, old Revolutionary War general Darby bequeaths his Georgia estate, Sangaree, to a man he trusts, Dr. Carlos Morales, requesting that he seek freedom for servants and slaves. The general's son Roy has no objection, but knows his sister Nancy is determined to keep Sangaree in the family. Edward Ludwig
Edward Irving Ludwig (October 7, 1899 – August 20, 1982) was a Russian-born American film director and writer. He directed nearly 100 films between 1921 and 1963 (some under the names Edward I. Luddy and Charles Fuhr). Ludwig was also one of the directors of John Payne (actor), John Payne's NBC Western (genre), western series ''The Restless Gun'' (1957-1959). Ludwig and Erle C. Kenton were the principal directors of the CBS television series, ''The Texan (TV series), The Texan'' (1958-1960), starring Rory Calhoun as a "Robin Hood of the West" who drifts through the region helping persons in need. ''The Texan'' in its first season ran opposite ''The Restless Gun'' in its second and last season. Charles Korvin
Charles Korvin (born Géza Kárpáthi, November 21, 1907 – June 18, 1998) was a Hungarian-American film, television and stage actor. He was also a professional still and motion picture photographer and a master chef. Korvin was born in Pöstyén, Kingdom of Hungary ''(now Piešťany, Slovakia)'' and studied at the Sorbonne. During his 10 years in France, he was hired by Yvon, the famous French postcard company, shooting on location all over the country. In 1937, he was hired for a CBC documentary film project about the renowned Canadian medical doctor, Norman Bethune. Entitled ''Heart of Spain'', Korvin photographed and co-directed the anti-Franco film which was shot on the front lines during the Spanish Civil War. Moving to the United States in 1940, Korvin studied acting and stagecraft at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia. Plot Adventurer and gem expert Jean Baptiste Tavernier promises a diamond to cap King Louis XIV's crown for the coronation, but the reckless haste of the king's emissary, Baron Paul de Cabannes, causes the jewel to be cut badly and ruined. Arthur Lester Matthews (6 June 1900 – 5 June 1975) was an English actor. In his career, the handsome Englishman made more than 180 appearances in film and on television. He was erroneously credited in later years as Les Matthews. John Sutton (actor)
John Sutton (22 October 1908 – 10 July 1963) was a British actor with a prolific career in Hollywood of more than 30 years. Personal life Sutton was born in Rawalpindi, India (now Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan). He was the son of Lt. Colonel Arthur Congdon (1861-1924) of the Royal Munster Fusiliers and his wife Ann Bell Sutton Moxley Congdon. Before moving to Hollywood as an actor, he was a tea planter in Assam, India, and, failing that, he farmed for a while in South Africa.
