Sandringham Dragons
The Sandringham Dragons are an Australian rules football club playing in the NAB League, the top statewide under-18 competition in Victoria, Australia. They are based at the Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham, Victoria, representing the southern suburban area of Melbourne. The Dragons were one of the founding metropolitan clubs of the competition in 1992 as part of a plan by the Victorian State Football League to replace the traditional club zones with independent junior clubs. This was to help aid in player development and the process of the AFL draft. The club was originally named the ''Central Dragons'' and played out of Toorak Oval in Prahran, Victoria. In 1995 the name of the club was changed to ''Prahran Dragons'' as part of the agreement which saw the Prahran Two Blues exit the senior Victorian Football League. NAB League
The NAB League Boys (also referred to as simply the NAB League and formerly known as the TAC Cup) is an under-19 Australian rules football representative competition held in Australia. It is based on geographic regions throughout country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne with each team representing twelve Victorian regions, while a thirteenth team from Tasmania was reintroduced in 2019. The competition is sponsored by National Australia Bank (NAB), having previously been sponsored by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) since its inception. The competition is one of the primary sources of recruitment for Australian Football League (AFL) clubs. It provides an opportunity for talented regional players to participate in a high standard competition without having to relocate too far from their place of origin. Simon Beaumont
Simon Beaumont (born 13 December 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL). Carlton secured the services of Beaumont with the 18th pick in the 1993 AFL Draft. A left footer, Beaumont was used mainly as a half back flanker and later key defender but could also play forward which was demonstrated in a game for Carlton against Collingwood at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Round 17, 1999 when he kicked eight goals, all of them in the first half. He is also a member of an exclusive group of players who kicked a goal with their first kick in the AFL, which he managed against Hawthorn in 1995. David Gallagher (Australian Footballer)
David Gallagher (born 5 August 1980) is an Australian rules footballer who has played in the Australian Football League and the Victorian Football League. Gallagher was recruited from the Prahran Dragons in the TAC Cup to the Adelaide Football Club with the 32nd selection in the 1998 AFL Draft. After playing 26 games over three seasons, including an AFL Rising Star nomination in 1999 he was traded to Carlton in return for Ben Nelson. He played in seven of the first nine games of the 2002 season, but did not play again in the AFL and was delisted. John Hynes (footballer)
John Hynes (born 23 February 1979 in Cheltenham) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Australian Football League. Drafted in 1997, Hynes debuted the following year. Playing as a key position player at 184 cm, Hynes often had to play on much larger opponents. As a result, Hynes only managed four senior games in 1998, although he did win the reserves best and fairest award. After failing to play a senior match in 1999, Hynes was delisted by Carlton. Will Sangster
William Andrew "Will" Sangster (born 11 October 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Sangster played his junior football at East Malvern and made TAC Cup appearances for the Prahran Dragons. He was selected by Sydney with pick 33 in the 1996 National Draft. Brett O'Farrell (Australian Rules Footballer)
Brett O'Farrell (born 3 January 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Sydney and Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL). At Under-18 level, O'Farrell played for Prahran and it was from there that he was recruited by Sydney with the 14th selection of the 1996 AFL draft, a pick which had been received as part of the Anthony Rocca trade. He spent a season in the reserves before making his debut in 1998, filling in for ruckman Greg Stafford. Brent Cameron Williams (born 13 February 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Adelaide in the Australian Football League (AFL). Williams came from Victoria and represented his state at Under-17 level, where he was an All-Australian. Jason Cripps
Jason Cripps (born 14 October 1976) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Cripps was often used as a tagger but also played in defence. He played in the Saints' losing 1997 Grand Final team and in 1998 suffered a serious hamstring injury which saw the muscle torn off the bone. As a result, he did not return to football until 2001, kicking a goal with his first kick back. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2002 season. Post football career Cripps played with Tasmania in the VFL for a season before returning to St Kilda in player development and assistant coaching roles under Grant Thomas. He moved to Port Adelaide for the 2007 season as an assistant coach under Mark Williams before becoming the club's list manager at the end of 2011. Nick Jewell
Nicholas Jewell (born 27 August 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer and a professional cricketer who played for Victoria. Jewell was educated at Caulfield Grammar School in Melbourne and played for Under-18s football for Prahran; in Year 12 at Caulfield, he set a then Associated Public Schools of Victoria record for the most runs in a season (later eclipsed in season 2005–06 by Melbourne Grammar School cricket captain Bryan Vance), and captained the school's First XI team. Matthew Robbins (footballer)
Matthew Robbins (born 8 May 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with both Geelong and the Western Bulldogs in the AFL. Recruited to the Geelong Football Club with pick 36 in the 1994 AFL Draft, Robbins played only 7 games in his 3 seasons at the Cats, being traded to the Western Bulldogs for the 1998 season. He became a solid small forward option for the Bulldogs, and in 2005 took a one handed mark against the Brisbane Lions in Round 18 which was one of the spectacular highlights of his season. Robbins finished with 31 goals from 16 games in 2005. Robbins kicked 45 goals in 2006 as a small forward, and in 2007 fell out of favour with the coaching staff and managed only a handful of senior games. Marty Warry
Martin Warry (born 5 January 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer. Recruited from Central U18s in the 1994 AFL Draft, Warry made his debut with the Fitzroy Football Club in 1995. He went on to play only 8 games and kick 11 goals with the Roys and was known as a forward with an exceptional leap and a touch of flair. One of those goals he kicked was the last one ever scored for the Roys in the AFL, in their Round 22, 1996 game against Fremantle. He booted 4 for the game. John Rombotis (born 13 October 1976) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy, Port Adelaide and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL). Rombotis, originally from Caulfield Grammar school, played at both the Sandringham Dragons and Central U-18s before being recruited to Fitzroy with pick 23 in the 1994 AFL draft.
