Sandbach RUFC is a rugby union team based in the Cheshire town of Sandbach. It operates four Senior sides, Junior and Senior Colts and ten Mini/Junior teams.Club website
The first XV plays in the fifth tier of the English rugby union system, English league system — Regional 1 North West. The second XV plays in the NOWIRUL Cotton Traders Premier League with the third with the third team playing in the NOWIRUL Division 2 South and fourth team social rugby.


History

Sandbach RUFC, formally known as Old Sandbachians RUFC (after Sandbach School, Sandbach School for Boys), was formed in 1936 but became defunct during World War II. Sandbach
Sandbach (pronounced ) is the name of a historic market town and a civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East, Cheshire, England. The civil parish contains four settlements: Sandbach itself as the largest, Elworth, Ettiley Heath and Wheelock. Sandbach is perhaps best known as the original home of Foden and ERF lorries, though neither company now exists in the town; twelve-times National Brass Band Championship winners Foden's Band; the ancient Saxon Sandbach Crosses; and Sandbach services on the M6 motorway. History Known as Sanbec in 1086, Sondbache (also Sondebache) in 1260, and Sandbitch in the 17th–18th centuries, Sandbach derives its name from the Anglo-Saxon ''sand bæce'', which can mean "sand stream" or "sand valley". John Olver (rugby Union)
Christopher John Olver (born in Manchester, England) is an English former rugby union hooker who played for England, Northampton Saints and Harlequins. Olver was known for his aggressive style of play and holds the somewhat undesirable record for spending the most number of minutes on the England substitutes bench. Olver won his first international cap against Argentina on 3 November 1990 and went on to gain 3 full caps for England. His international career suffered due to the form of another English hooker Brian Moore however he was still regarded as the first choice reserve hooker for the England team for much of the early nineties. In the absence of sixteen England players on tour with the British Lions, Olver was chosen as captain for the 1993 England rugby union tour of Canada and led England in the two international matches against Canada, for which full caps were not awarded. Ewan Ashman
Ewan Ashman (born 3 April 2000) is a Scotland international rugby union player. He plays for Sale Sharks in Premiership Rugby. He plays at hooker. Career Club Born in Toronto, Ontario, Ashman started playing rugby at Sandbach RUFC. First playing as a centre or a back row, Ashman eventually became a hooker. He made his senior debut for the Cheshire’s club in Midlands Premier during the 2017–18 season, also joining Sale Sharks academy in 2017. He joined the Sharks' professional squad ahead of the 2018–19 seasons. During the next season he was first loaned to Edinburgh as players had left for the World Cup, but never managed to make his professional debut, being blocked by Dave Cherry, Cammy Fenton and Mike Willemse, eventually ending up playing in National League 1 with Sale FC. James Gaskell
James Gaskell (born 20 May 1990) is a rugby union player for Shokki Shuttles in the Top League. He plays as a flanker or lock. After making the debut for Sale in 2008, Gaskell was named the club's Breakthrough Player of the Year for the 2009/10 season. Gaskell was named club captain for the 2010/11 season, making him the youngest captain in the history of the Premiership. He was injured for much of the season, and returned in January 2011. The club's coach changed while Gaskell was injured, and a new captain was appointed.
