Sandane is the administrative centre of the municipality of Gloppen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located at the end of the Gloppefjorden, along the European route E39 highway. Sandane is south of the village of Nordfjordeid and about west of the village of Byrkjelo. Sandane Airport, Anda is located northwest of Sandane along highway E39. Sandane has several suburban areas that surround the nearby fjord such as Sørstranda to the west and Vereide to the northwest. Byrkjelo is a village in the municipality of Gloppen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located about halfway between the villages of Sandane (in Gloppen) and Skei (in Sunnfjord) along the European route E39 highway. Jostedalsbreen National Park
Jostedalsbreen National Park ( no, Jostedalsbreen nasjonalpark) is a national park in Norway that encompasses the largest glacier on the European mainland, Jostedalsbreen. The park was established by royal decree on 25 October 1991, and then in 1998, it was enlarged to the northwest. The park now covers , with the glaciers covering about of the park. Myklebustbreen
Myklebustbreen or Snønipbreen is the seventh largest glacier in mainland Norway. It is located in the municipalities of Nordfjord, Gloppen, and Stryn in Vestland county. Its highest point is located just below the nunatak Snønipa, with an altitude of . The lowest point on the glacier is at an elevation of above sea level. The villages of Byrkjelo and Egge both lie on the European route E39 highway which runs north and south, about east of Myklebustbreen. The Oldedalen valley lies to the east of the glacier. Breimsvatn
Breimsvatn or Breimsvatnet is a lake in the municipalities of Gloppen and Sunnfjord in Vestland county, Norway. At , it is the largest lake in Gloppen (followed by the lake Emhjellevatnet). The European route E39 highway runs along the north end of the lake, connecting the two nearby areas of Sandane and Byrkjelo. On the shores of the long lake lie several villages including Re and Kandal. The lake flows into the Gloppenelva river which flows into the Gloppefjorden, an arm of the Nordfjorden. Historically, the area surrounding the lake was part of the municipality of Breim, which existed from 1886 until 1964. Sandane Church
Sandane Church ( no, Sandane kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Sandane at the southern end of the Gloppefjorden. It is one of the four churches for the Gloppen parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, concrete church was built in a rectangular design in 1997 by the architect Helge Hjertholm. The church seats about 300 people. History Historically, the Sandane area was part of the parish of the medieval Vereide Church. By the 1930s, the people of Sandane began discussing building a new, more modern church. Some fundraising began, but the World War II came and went and it took a long time after the war before the parish began to really look at building a new church. Vereide
Vereide is a village in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located along the central part of the eastern shore of the Gloppefjorden, along the European route E39 highway. It sits about northwest of the municipal center of Sandane and about southeast of Sandane Airport, Anda. Vereide Church is located in this village, right on the shore of the fjord. There is some development right along the fjord, but due to the relatively steep hill, most development is located higher up on rather flat area further inland. Nordfjord folkehøgskule, a Christian folk high school, is located in Vereide.
