San Pietro, Cento
San Pietro is a Gothic style, Roman Catholic church located on Via Cremonino in Cento, Province of Ferrara, Region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. History Construction of the church began before 1300s, and it was the second oldest parish in Cento. It was attached initially to the Franciscan order. In 1749, it became a parish church, a role for which for some time it shared with the nearby church of San Rocco. The church underwent numerous refurbishments and contains works by Lucio Massari: ''Crucifixion and Saints''; Guercino: ''Virgin in Glory with Saints Bonaventure, Francis, and donor''; and a ''Madonna and Child, Saints and Guardian Angel''. Due to the 2012 Northern Italy earthquakes, the church was closed for reconstruction. Gothic Architecture
Gothic architecture (or pointed architecture) is an architectural style that was prevalent in Europe from the late 12th to the 16th century, during the High and Late Middle Ages, surviving into the 17th and 18th centuries in some areas. The Middle East Treaty Organization (METO), also known as the Baghdad Pact and subsequently known as the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO), was a military alliance of the Cold War. It was formed in 24 February 1955 by Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The alliance was dissolved in 16 March 1979. US pressure and promises of military and economic aid were key in the negotiations leading to the agreement, but the United States could not initially participate. Lucio Massari
Lucio Massari (22 January 1569 – 3 November 1633) was an Italian painter of the School of Bologna. He can be described as painting during both Mannerist and early-Baroque periods. Life and work He was born in Bologna, where he initially apprenticed with an unknown painter by the name of Spinelli, then the Mannerist painter Bartolomeo Passarotti, but also worked with Bartolomeo Cesi. In 1592, he joined the Carracci studio or the ''Academy of the Incamminati'', and remained attached to Ludovico Carracci for many years. In 1604, he worked with Ludovico to fresco ''Stories of San Mauro, San Benedetto and others'' in the cloister of San Michele in Bosco. 2012 Northern Italy Earthquakes
In May 2012, two major earthquakes struck Northern Italy, causing 27 deaths and widespread damage. The events are known in Italy as the 2012 Emilia earthquakes, because they mainly affected the Emilia region. The first earthquake, registering magnitude 6.1, struck in the Emilia-Romagna region, about north of the city of Bologna, on at 04:03 local time (02:03 UTC). The epicentre was between Finale Emilia, Bondeno and Sermide.
