The San Luis Open also known as the San Luis Potosí Open is a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor red clay courts. San Luis Potosí, commonly called SLP or simply San Luis, is the capital and the most populous city of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. Mario Llamas (30 March 1928 – 17 June 2014) was a tennis player from Mexico. Career Llamas was a regular fixture on the Mexico Davis Cup team, appearing in a total of 21 ties during his career. He won 21 of his 44 rubbers, 15 of them in singles. In the 1962 Davis Cup, Llamas was a member of the team that finished as the runner-up. Gustavo Palafox (15 November 1923 – 21 August 2006) was a Mexican tennis player. Life and career Palafox won five Pan American Games gold medals during the 1950s. He competed at the US National Championships four times and made the third round in 1952, with wins over Robert Kerdasha and Don Eisenberg, before a loss to 11th seed Gardnar Mulloy. Rafael Ortega is a Mexican former tennis player who was active in the 1950s. Ortega appeared in two Davis Cup ties for Mexico during his career, against Cuba away in Havana in 1950, then Japan at home in Mexico City in 1954. In both 1952 and 1953, Ortega competed in the main draw of the U.S. National Championships, for two first-round losses. His first-round match against William Quillian in 1953 went to five sets.
