Saint George
Saint George (Greek: Γεώργιος (Geórgios), Latin: Georgius, Arabic: القديس جرجس; died 23 April 303), also George of Lydda, was a Christian who is venerated as a saint in Christianity. According to tradition he was a soldier in the Roman army. Saint George was a soldier of Cappadocian Greek origin and member of the Praetorian Guard for Roman emperor Diocletian, who was sentenced to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith. He became one of the most venerated saints and megalomartyrs in Christianity, and he has been especially venerated as a military saint since the Crusades. He is respected by Christians, Druze, as well as some Muslims as a martyr of monotheistic faith. In hagiography, as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and one of the most prominent military saints, he is immortalized in the legend of Saint George and the Dragon. His memorial, Saint George's Day, is traditionally celebrated on 23 April. Historically, the countries of England, Ukrai ...

Castle Of San Jorge
The Castle of San Jorge was a medieval fortress built on the west bank of the Guadalquivir river in the Spanish city of Seville (Spain). It was also used as headquarters and prison for the Spanish Inquisition. It was demolished in the 19th century and made into a food market. A museum in the underground ruins focuses on the history of the castle, the Spanish Inquisition and of religious repression. Next to the food market in the Barrio de Triana, the Alley of the Inquisition, which was part of the fortifications, now connects Castilla Street with the Nuestra Señora de la O Walk. History The Visigoths created a fortification in the area next to the river to defend Spalis, the Visigoth name for Seville. During the Almohad domain in 1171, Jucef Abu Jacub, king of Isbilia, ordered the construction of the Puente de barcas (Bridge of Boats), a floating bridge laid over a row of boats, to link the east and west shores. That bridge was chained to what was then called the Castle o ...

Order Of San Jorge De Alfama
Knights of Saint George appear at different historical periods and in different countries as mutually independent bodies having nothing in common but the veneration of Saint George, the patron saint of knighthood. Saint George of Lydda, a martyr of the persecution of Diocletian in the 4th century, is one of those military saints whom Byzantine iconography represented as a horseman armed wiktionary:cap-a-pie, like the flower of the Roman armies after the military reform of Justinian I in the 6th century. The pilgrim knights of Europe, encountering in the East these representations of Saint George, recognised their own accoutrements and at once adopted him as the patron of their noble calling. This popularity of Saint George in the West gave rise to numerous associations both secular and religious. Among secular orders of this name which still exist must be mentioned the English Order of the Garter, which has always had Saint George for its patron. The Kingdom of Aragon was placed ...

Iglesia De San Jorge (Manzaneda)
The Church of San Jorge of Manzaneda (''Spanish'': la iglesia de San Jorge de Manzaneda) is a church in Gozón, Spain. It is small in size, but it constitutes a notable example of Asturian Romanesque architecture. It was created during the classical period in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. It is small in size and significant for its architecture and its surrounding environment which has barely changed. Architecture Located next to the town Alvaré, in the parish of Gozoniega de Manzaneda, it maintains an area close to the standard measurements for the rural, Romanesque churches of Asturias. It has a singular rectangular nave with no divisions of sections or side chapels. The front of the building has two areas, one inspired by local tradition, and the other has international Roman themes. Other elements that link the church to the Romanesque are the decorative portions located in various spaces of the temple. The church includes zigzag motifs, a large arch with limi ...
