San Giacinto, Siena
''San Giacinto'' is a Renaissance architecture, Renaissance-style, former-Roman Catholic church, now deconsecrated, located at via dei Pispini 162a, in the city of Siena, region of Tuscany, Italy. It is located about 8 doors down from Porta dei Pìspini, Siena, Porta dei Pìspini on the south side of the street. History The church was associated with a monastery of Dominican nuns, called of the Vita Eterna, which ran an adjacent orphanage. Since 1528, it became the oratory of the Confraternity of Sant'Emidio, which still persists as a lay confraternity. The church is now used by the Musica Siena for concerts. The church has a simple brick facade with pilasters. Above the door is a faded fresco by Francesco Rustici (il Rustichino), who also painted for the interior. The main altarpiece is a ''Miracle of St. Giacinto granting vision to a blind child'' (1615) by il Rustichino. Porta Dei Pìspini, Siena
The Porta dei Pìspini or Gate of the Water-spout is one of the portals in the medieval walls of Siena, region of Tuscany, Italy. It is located on the east side of town, in the contrada del Nicchio in the terzo of San Martino, where Via Pìspini meets Via Aretina. The gate took its name from a nearby fountain; the nearby Fonte de' Pispina, however, was built in 1534–1538. History Originally it was called Porta San Viene, because through this gate the relics of Sant'Ansano came (''vennero'') into the city. However construction of present gate was not begun until the 1250s, and the walls connecting to the nearby gates were not completed till the 15th century. Francesco Rustici, called Il Rustichino (Siena, 1592 – Siena, 1626) was an Italian painter active in Siena. He worked on commissions for the local churches as well as from the Grand-Dukes of Tuscany. In his work he shows a preference for nocturnal effects which reveals the influence of Caravaggio and his followers, the so-called Caravaggisti.
