San Diego Figure Skating Club
The San Diego Figure Skating Club was established in 1939, received its charter from the United States Figure Skating Association and registered its Articles of Corporation on July 27, 1940 in the State of California. The Club’s purpose is to foster, promote, encourage, advance and improve the art of and interest in figure skating, and to encourage and to cultivate a spirit of harmony and friendship among ice skaters by such means as may be proposed from time to time by the membership. It is one of the oldest skating clubs in California. Home rinks Today, the San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa, California serves as the Club’s home rink with the Kroc Center Ice Arena in La Mesa functioning as a secondary training rink. Glacier Gardens, located at Eighth Avenue and Harbor Drive, next to the San Diego Yacht Club on San Diego Bay, served as the first home rink for the San Diego Figure Skating Club. John Curry
John Anthony Curry, (9 September 1949 – 15 April 1994) was a British Figure skating, figure skater. He was the 1976 1976 European Figure Skating Championships, European, Figure skating at the 1976 Winter Olympics, Olympic and World Figure Skating Championships, World Champion. He was noted for combining ballet and modern dance influences into his skating. Early life Curry was born on 9 September 1949 in Birmingham, England. He had two older brothers. He was educated at Solihull School, an Independent school (UK), independent school in the West Midlands (county), West Midlands and prior to this, at St Andrews, an independent boarding school in Somerset. Synchronized Skating
Synchronized skating is an ice skating sport where between 8 to 16 skaters perform together as a team. They move as a flowing unit at high speed over the ice, while performing elements and footwork. This complex sport originated in 1956 and was initially called "precision skating" due to its emphasis on the maintenance of intricate and precise formations and the requirement of precise timing from all members of the group. Synchronized skating is now well-established as an organized sport in several European countries with several of them having produced teams who frequently win championships at the international level. Yuri Lvovich Ovchinnikov (russian: Юрий Львович Овчинников; born 3 June 1950 in Leningrad) is a Russian figure skating coach and former competitor for the Soviet Union. Rory Flack (Flack-Mitchell) (born April 28, 1969) is a professional African American Figure Skater and former competitor. She is the first African American woman to perform a back flip on the ice (in 1991) and in 1994 she became the first African American woman to win the US Open Professional Figure Skating Championships. Todd James Eldredge (born August 28, 1971) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is the 1996 World champion, a six-time U.S. national champion (1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002), a three-time Olympian (1992, 1998, 2002), and a six-time World medalist. Career Eldredge began skating when he was five years old and moved from Chatham, Massachusetts, to Philadelphia at age ten to train with Richard Callaghan. John Baldwin (figure Skater)
John Baldwin, Jr. (born October 18, 1973) is an American retired figure skater. With partner Rena Inoue, he is a two-time U.S. national champion. Inoue and Baldwin are the first skaters to perform a throw triple Axel in competition. Personal life Baldwin was born in Dallas, Texas. His parents were both skating coaches. His father, John Baldwin Sr., competed as a single skater in the 1960s. His brother Don Baldwin competed in singles as well. Baldwin attended Poway High School. Rosalynn Diane Sumners (born April 20, 1964) is an American former competitive figure skater. She was the World Junior champion in 1980, the U.S. National champion in 1982, 1983 and 1984, World champion in 1983, and won a silver medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics (second to Katarina Witt). Linda Fratianne
Linda Sue Fratianne (born August 2, 1960) is an American former figure skater known for winning two World Championship titles (1977, 1979), four consecutive U.S. Championships (1977–1980), and a silver medal in the 1980 Winter Olympics. Personal life Fratianne was married to ski racer Nick Maricich. Career Throughout her figure skating career, Fratianne was coached by Frank Carroll. She remained loyal whilst other switched to get a better deal. Fratianne became the first female skater to land two different types of triple jumps (toe loop and Salchow) in her free skating programs in 1976 at the U.S. National Championships.
