Samuel Jacob Rubinstein
Samuel Jacob Rubinstein was a 20th-century French orthodox Chief Rabbi independent from the Consistoire central. He was born in Poland. Biography Samuel Jacob (Shmuel Yaakov) Rubinstein was the rabbi of the famous Agoudas Hakehilos Synagogue (Synagogue de la rue Pavée), at 10 Rue Pavée, in the Marais (known as the Pletzl), in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. He succeeded Chief Rabbi Joël Leib HaLevi Herzog, father of Chief Rabbi Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog, the future Chief Rabbi of Israel, as rabbi of Agudas Hakehilos (אֲגֻדָּת־הַקְּהִלּוֹת, Union of Communities). He contributed to the renewal of French Jewry after World War II and was active in the ''return'' of Jewish children entrusted to non-Jewish families during the war. David Feuerwerker
David Feuerwerker (October 2, 1912 – June 20, 1980) was a French Jewish rabbi and professor of Jewish history who was effective in the resistance to German occupation the Second World War. He was completely unsuspected until six months before the war ended, when he fled to Switzerland and his wife and baby went underground in France. The French government cited him for his bravery with several awards. After the war, he and his wife re-established the Jewish community of Lyon. He settled in Paris, teaching at the Sorbonne. In 1966, he and his family, grown to six children, moved to Montreal, where he developed a department of Jewish studies at the University of Montreal. Richard Prasquier (born 7 July 1945) is a French cardiologist and Jewish leader. He served as president of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF) from 2007 to 2013. Biography Prasquier was born as Ryszard Praszkier in Gdańsk, Poland, on 7 July 1945 to Holocaust survivors who wanted to emigrate to the United States after the 1946 Kielce pogrom against Jews in Poland, but decided to settle in France. After his schooling at the Lycée Charlemagne in Paris and studies in medicine which he completed with a Ph.D, Richard Prasquier became a cardiologist and later the director of the Hôpital Beaujon in Clichy. The Union Libérale Israélite de France (ULIF), commonly referred to as the rue Copernic synagogue, is a Reform Judaism, Liberal Judaism, Jewish synagogue, located in Paris, France. Inaugurated on the first of December 1907, it is the oldest Reform synagogue in France. Neturei Karta (Jewish Babylonian Aramaic: , , ) is a religious group of Haredi Jews, formally created in Jerusalem, then in Mandatory Palestine, in 1938, splitting off from Agudas Yisrael. Neturei Karta opposes Zionism and calls for a "peaceful dismantling" of the State of Israel, in the belief that Jews are forbidden to have their own state until the coming of the Jewish Messiah and that the state of Israel is a rebellion against God. While the Neturei Karta describe themselves as true traditional Jews, the more secular US-based Jewish Anti-Defamation League has described them as "the farthest fringes of Judaism". Amram Blau
Amram Blau (1894–1974) was a Haredi rabbi in Mandatory Palestine and Israel. He was one of the founders of the fiercely Anti-Zionist Neturei Karta. Biography Blau was born in Jerusalem into the city's Hungarian Jewish community. His father was originally from Pressburg and had immigrated to Palestine in 1869, while his mother was a native of Jerusalem, with roots in the city dating to the late 18th century.
