Samuel D. Babcock
Samuel Denison Babcock (May 16, 1822 – September 14, 1902) was an American banker. Early life Babock was born on May 16, 1822, in Stonington, Connecticut. He was a son of Benjamin Franklin Babcock Sr. and Maria (née Eells) Babcock. His ancestors were natives of Essex, among the staunchest of Puritan families, who went to Leiden, Holland before landing in Plymouth Rock in 1623 with one of the first parties of colonists following the ''Mayflower''. The family grew wealthy and rose to prominence, holding high civil and military positions during the American Revolutionary War. Irving Trust was an American Commercial bank headquartered in New York City that operated between 1851 and 1988 when it was acquired by Bank of New York. From 1965 the bank was the principal subsidiary of the Irving Bank Corporation. Benjamin Fordyce Barker (1818–1891), generally known as Fordyce Baker, was an obstetrician from Maine who was a visiting physician at Bellevue Hospital from 1855 to 1879 and a consulting physician there from 1879 to his death. Life He was born at Wilton, Maine, May 2, 1818, the son of Doctor John Barker and Phebe Abbott. His father, a practitioner at Wilton, was formerly for two years an army surgeon in the War of 1812. Fordyce's early education was under the tutelage of his parents until eleven years of age, then began his classical training under his uncle John Abbott, at China, Maine. James Lent Barclay (October 5, 1848 – July 2, 1925) was an American member of New York society during the Gilded Age. Early life Barclay was born on October 5, 1848, in Newtown on Long Island. He was the third child and second son of four children born to Henry Barclay (1794–1863) and Sarah Ann Moore (1809–1873). His siblings were Henry Anthony Barclay (1844–1905), Fannie Barclay (1846–1922), and Sackett Moore Barclay (1850–1918). His maternal grandfather was Daniel Sackett Moore.
