Anatoly Mykhailovych Samoilenko ( uk, Анато́лій Миха́йлович Само́йленко) (2 January 1938 – 4 December 2020) was a Ukrainian mathematician, an Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (since 1995), the Director of the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (since 1988). Biography Anatoly Samoilenko was born in 1938 in the village of Potiivka, Radomyshl district, Zhytomyr region. In 1955, he entered the Geologic Department at the Shevchenko Kyiv State University. In 1960, Samoilenko graduated from the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics at the Shevchenko Kyiv State University with mathematics specialization. Illia Samoilenko ( uk, Ілля Сергійович Самойленко; born 10 July 1994) is a Ukrainian serviceman, an intelligence officer of the Azov Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine, and a participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Biography Samoilenko studied at the Faculty of History of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He dreams of completing his studies after the war. His callsign is Gandalf. In 2015, he began military service in the ATO/OOS zone as part of the Azov Regiment when he was 21 years old. He lost his left arm and right eye during the fighting (he now has a titanium mechanical prosthesis and an artificial eye). By the 18th century almost all Ukrainians had family names. Most Ukrainian surnames (and surnames in Slavic languages in general) are formed by adding possessive and other suffixes to given names, place names, professions and other words.
