Sami Khan (general)
Lieutenant General Sami Khan, PVSM, SM was a General in the Indian Army who served as the 13th General officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, Lucknow. Gen Khan had earlier served as the Commandant of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. Early life Lt. Gen Sami Khan was born in Hyderabad, India, and was commissioned in the 4th Battalion, The Madras Regiment, Indian Army. He was a member of the Royal family of Rampur, and attended Sherwood College, Nainital, and The Scindia School, Gwalior before attending the National Defence Academy. Military career 2 Lt Sami Khan joined the Indian Army on 10 January 1951 and was commissioned into the 4th Battalion the Madras Regiment. In a career spanning 38 years, Lt Gen Khan served with the United Nations in Congo, and was awarded the Sena Medal. Sherwood College
Sherwood College is a co-educational residential school in Nainital, Uttrakhand , India. It was established in 1869 and is affiliated to CISCE and IGCSE. History Sherwood was founded on 5 June 1869. It was the brain-child of Dr. Condon, H.S. Reid and others under the patronage of the Rt. Rev. Robert Milman, DD, the seventh Metropolitan of India. The idea took shape as the Nainital Diocesan Boys' High School, as Sherwood was once called. Sherwood's sister school, erstwhile known as Diocesan Girls' High School, branched into All Saints' College, Nainital. Appeals to the public for funds were overwhelming, and a mixed school under Miss Bradbury was started at Petersfield. Its success was reflected in the large-scale rejection of applications for admission. Major General
Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant. In the Commonwealth and in the United States, when appointed to a field command, a major general is typically in command of a division consisting of around 6,000 to 25,000 troops (several regiments or brigades). It is a two-star rank that is subordinate to the rank of lieutenant general and senior to the rank of brigadier or brigadier general. The Army War College, Dr.Ambedkar Nagar (A.W.C.) is a defence service training and research institution of the Indian Army located in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. It develops and evaluates concepts and doctrines for tactics and logistics for the army. The college trains about 1,200 officers of the Indian Army, as well as paramilitary forces each year. Brigadier is a military rank, the seniority of which depends on the country. Mhow
Mhow, officially Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, is a town in the Indore district in Madhya Pradesh state of India. It is located south-west of Indore city, towards Mumbai on the old Mumbai-Agra Road. The town was renamed as ''Dr. Ambedkar Nagar'' in 2003, by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Etymology Some articles in popular literature state that 'MHOW' stands for Military Headquarters Of War. However, this is a backronym, and there is no proof to support the theory that the name of the village comes from the acronym. The village near Mhow was called Mhow Gaon in the Mughal/Maratha era, when English was not used in India. The Cantonment which came up in 1818 during the Third Anglo-Maratha War, came to be known as Mhow Cantt after the name of this village. Second lieutenant is a junior commissioned officer military rank in many armed forces, comparable to NATO OF-1 rank.
