Same-sex Marriage In Faroe Islands
Same-sex marriage in the Faroe Islands has been legal since 1 July 2017. Legislation allowing same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples was approved by the Løgting on 29 April 2016. The Danish Parliament approved the necessary legislative adaptations on 25 April 2017, and the law received royal assent on 3 May and went into effect on 1 July 2017. The Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, was the last Nordic region to introduce same-sex marriage. Bjørt Samuelsen
Bjørt Samuelsen (2 March 1965 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese journalist, master in food science (Danish: ) and politician (Republic). Political career She was elected for the Løgting at the 2008 Faroese general election and again in 2011. She was not elected at the 2015 elections, but kept her seat in the parliament because Høgni Hoydal was appointed minister of fisheries. Samuelsen was Ministers of Trade and Industry from 4 February until 15 September 2008. She was the first female minister of trade and industry of the Faroe Islands and as of 2019 the only one. DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. Social Democratic Party (Faroe Islands)
The Social Democratic Party ( fo, Javnaðarflokkurin, lit=Equality Party, JF) is a social-democratic political party on the Faroe Islands, led by Aksel V. Johannesen. History The Social Democratic Party was founded on 25 September 1925 by members of Faroese trade unions. Its youth organization '' Sosialistiskt Ungmannafelag'' (Socialist Youth) was founded in 1965. At the 2004 general election on 20 January 2004, the party received 21.8% of the popular vote and therefore won 7 out of 33 seats in the Løgting. At the 2008 general election on 19 January 2008, the party received 19.3% of the popular vote and therefore won 6 out of 33 seats. Heðin Mortensen
Heðin Mortensen (born April 7, 1946) is a Faroese politician member of the Social Democratic Party. He is the current mayor of the Municipality of Tórshavn since 1 January 2021. He was also mayor from 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2016. Mortensen was born in Trongisvágur. He worked as a mechanic from 1961 to 1978, when he became an insurance agent for The Faroe Insurance Company ( fo, Tryggingarfelagið Føroyar). Kristin Michelsen
Kristin Michelsen (born 30 July 1956 in Froðba) is a Faroese politician (Self-Government). Background Michelsen is the son of Vilborg and Mikkjal Michelsen and grandson of the poet Poul F. Joensen. He is married to Joan N. Michelsen from Hvalba, with whom he has a daughter. He was employed in Sjóvinnubankin 1973–1978 and worked as a carpenter 1978–1984. Jógvan á Lakjuni (born 13 November 1952 in Fuglafjørður) is a Faroese politician, composer and teacher. He was speaker of the Faroese parliament, the Løgting, from 2011 to 2015 and from 2019 to 2022. He worked as a fisherman from 1969 to 1972. He was educated as a school teacher in 1977, and worked as a school teacher in Fuglafjørður from 1977 to 1989. Jenis Kristian av Rana (born 7 January 1953 in Trongisvágur) is a Faroese medical practitioner and politician, serving as leader of the Centre Party since 2001. Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen (born 28 August 1964 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese politician. He was the prime minister of the Faroe Islands, representing the Faroese Unionist Party ( Sambandsflokkurin). Óluva Elin Klettskarð (born 24 June 1965) is a Faroese schoolteacher and politician. She was a member of the Løgting from 2015 to 2019. Early life and career Klettskarð was in Klaksvík on 24 June 1965, the daughter of Páll Klettskarð from Haraldssund and his wife Edith (born Stenberg) from Porkeri. The parents ran their own business in Klaksvík, and the father later became a fishing boat owner. Katrin Kallsberg (born 30 July 1967 in Denmark) is a Faroese gynaecologist and politician Republic (Tjóðveldi). Early life and education Katrin Kallsberg was born, 30 July 1967, in Denmark. Her parents, Olga and Kaj Kallsberg, are Faroese. She lived in Denmark the first six years of her life, until the family moved back to the Faroe Islands.
