Sambass, drum 'n' bossa or drum 'n' sambass (a portmanteau of "samba" and " bass") is a regional subgenre of drum and bass music mostly native to Brazil, which combines drum and bass rhythms with influences from Latin American music. Popular artists in the genre include DJ Marky, DJ Patife, XRS Land, Drumagick Drumagick are the brothers JrDeep (born 1977) and Guilherme Lopes (born 1981). Drumagick
Drumagick are the brothers JrDeep (born 1977) and Guilherme Lopes (born 1981). They are DJs and drum 'n' bass producers who live in São Paulo, Brazil. History JrDeep and Guilherme Lopes were exposed to the hardcore days back in 1993. JrDeep used to skateboard as a child, but at the age of 12 he got run over by a car and had to stay almost 6 months in recovery from the accident. He started to listen to the radio a lot at that time, when bands such as Information Society, Depeche Mode and New Order were on the billboards. As soon as he recovered from the accident, he took a DJ course and became increasingly interested in electronic music. Guilherme Lopes started to DJ from the early age of 12, following his elder brother's steps, and at the age of 15 he already produced singles. Bossa Nova
Bossa nova () is a style of samba developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is mainly characterized by a "different beat" that altered the harmonies with the introduction of unconventional chords and an innovative syncopation of traditional samba from a single rhythmic division. The "bossa nova beat" is characteristic of a samba style and not of an autonomous genre. According to the Brazilian journalist Ruy Castro, the bossa beat – which was created by the drummer Milton Banana – was "an extreme simplification of the beat of the samba school", as if all instruments had been removed and only the tamborim had been preserved. Xerxes de Oliveira is a drum and bass producer from Brazil. He uses several pseudonyms including XRS, XRS Land, Friendtornik, and Kapitel 06. Wagner Ribeiro de Souza (born September 15, 1976), better known by his stage name DJ Patife, is a prominent Brazilian drum and bass DJ. DJ Patife's first gig was at São Paulo's Arena Music Hall. In 1997, he accompanied Roni Size in the delivery of the Mercury Prize. Patife released his first album in 2000, Sounds of Drum'n'bass. The album was praised by English magazines Muzik and Mixmag,. In 2000, Patife, Marky, and the Drumagick duo played for 5,000 people in São Paulo. Patife's remix for Max de Castro's "Pra Você Lembrar" was a hit in the Londoner dance tracks and was included in the main dance magazines' playlists. Marco Antonio da Silva known professionally as DJ Marky, is a Brazilian drum and bass DJ. Together with DJ Patife, XRS Land and Drumagick, Brazilians were forging a new sound in drum and bass that became popular around the world with releases such as ''LK'' and ''Só Tinha Que Ser Com Você''. Career He was brought to the attention of the English DJ Bryan Gee, head of V Recordings, who saw Marky playing in a club in São Paulo in 1998. He invited the DJ to play in London. This experience resulted in a residency at the club Movement, a subsequent residency at The End club, work for the UK's BBC Radio 1, and global popularity.
