Samarai Islands
The Samarai Islands archipelago, part of the larger Louisiade Archipelago, is located southeast of mainland New Guinea island, within the nation of Papua New Guinea. Geography The archipelago consists of: 4 larger volcanic islands frequently fringed by coral reefs; and 30 smaller coral islands. The islands stretch over more than , and spread over an ocean area of , between the Solomon Sea to the north and the Coral Sea to the south. The aggregate land area of the islands is about , with Basilaki Island being the largest. Logea Island, Samarai Island and Sariba Island lie closest to mainland New Guinea, while the Kitai Group lies further east. The entire archipelago is within the Bwanabwana Rural LLG (Local Level Government), a part of the Samarai-Murua District in Milne Bay Province, southeastern Papua New Guinea. Louisiade Archipelago
The Louisiade Archipelago is a string of ten larger volcanic islands frequently fringed by coral reefs, and 90 smaller coral islands in Papua New Guinea. It is located 200 km southeast of New Guinea, stretching over more than and spread over an ocean area of between the Solomon Sea to the north and the Coral Sea to the south. The aggregate land area of the islands is about , with Vanatinai (Tagula) being the largest. Rogeia, Samarai and Sariba lie closest to New Guinea, while Misima, Vanatinai, and Rossel islands lie further east. History The islands were discovered by a Spanish expedition led by Luis Váez de Torres in 1606, that was part of the Fernandez de Quiros fleet which had sailed from South America in search of Australia. Buiari Island is an island in the Louisiade Archipelago in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. Administration The island is part of Buiari Ward (which also includes some tiny villages on near Basilaki island. The ward belong to Bwanabwana Rural Local Level Government Area LLG, Samarai-Murua District, which are in Milne Bay Province. Geography Buiari is located Southwest of Basilaki, and is part of the Basilaki group, itself a part of Samarai Islands of the Louisiade Archipelago. Demographics The population of 500 is living in 2 villages across the island. The most important one, and where the dock is located, is Buiari, and is on the north coast facing Basilaki. Igwali Island (also known as Paples Island) is an island north of Sariba Island, and on the eastern side of China Strait, in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. Grant Island

Gonubalabala Island (on maps as Gona Bara Bara) is an island on the southern side of East Channel, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. It is located South east of Logea Island. It is a home island of the Mailulu clan. Administration The island is part of Logea South Ward, Bwanabwana Rural Local Level Government Area LLG, Samarai-Murua District, which are in Milne Bay Province. History Home to the Mailulu clan for at least 6 generations. They have been and remain stewards of the land as well as the reef. Ebuma Island is a small island in China Strait, between Samarai and the mainland, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. History George and Edna-May Hancock purchased the island in 1960, they built a house on it and lived there from 1960 - 1985. Ernie Evennett married Lynne Hancock and George Hancock, Lynne’s father built a second house on the island in 1962 for them, Ernie Evennett was allowed to live on Ebuma long after because of his relationship to their daughter. . Doini Island
Doini Island (also called Blanchard Island) is an island on the southern side of East Channel, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. Administration The island belongs to Logea South Ward, Bwanabwana Rural Local Level Government Area LLG, Samarai-Murua District, which are in Milne Bay Province. History Doini Island was first sighted by Europeans on 30 July 1606 by the Spanish expedition of Luís Vaez de Torres. They sailed and landed in it coming from their nearby base in ''Puerto de San Francisco'' (as they had named Oba Bay in Sideia Island). Upon their approach, although fires had been seen on the island every night, the natives retreated by canoe to another island when the landing crew approached.
