Salvador Pardo Cruz
Brigade General Salvador Pardo Cruz is a Cuban politician and the Cuban Minister of Heavy Industries (2009–present), replacing Fernando Acosta Santana after the 2009 shake-up by Raúl Castro. Early life He is a radiotechnical engineer. He had previously held the position of Director of the Military Industries Union. He is a member of the Communist Party of Cuba. He was superior officer of the Revolutionary Armed Forces for more than 45 years, mainly in combat units of the Coheterile Antiaircraft Troops. He was General Coordinator and Director in 1998 of the companies belonging to the Union of Military Industry. He is in charge, since 2009, of the Ministry of the Sidero-Mechanical and Electronic Industry, replacing Fernando Acosta Santana and thus ending his position as General Director of the Union of Military Industry. The Communist Party of Cuba ( es, Partido Comunista de Cuba, PCC) is the sole ruling party of Cuba. It was founded on 3 October 1965 as the successor to the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution, which was in turn made up of the 26th of July Movement and Popular Socialist Party that seized power in Cuba after the 1959 Cuban Revolution. The party governs Cuba as an authoritarian one-party state where dissidence and political opposition are prohibited and repressed. The Cuban constitution ascribes the role of the party to be the " leading force of society and of the state". The highest body within the PCC is the Party Congress, which convenes every five years. When the Congress is not in session, the Central Committee is the highest body. In March 2009, President Raúl Castro of Cuba dismissed numerous government ministers. Officials * Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque was dismissed on 2 March 2009. Fidel Castro then criticized him for love of power in a statement on 3 March, and Pérez Roque announced his resignation from all his party and state positions—membership on the Communist Party's Central Committee and Political Bureau, membership on the Council of State, and his role as a parliamentary deputy—in a letter published on 5 March. ''Granma'' is the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. It was formed in 1965 by the merger of two previous papers, (from Spanish: "Revolution") and ("Today"). Publication of the newspaper began in February of 1966. Its name comes from the yacht '' Granma'' that carried Fidel Castro and 81 other rebels to Cuba's shores in 1956, launching the Cuban Revolution. The newspaper has been a way for the Cuban Communist Party to communicate their ideology to the world, especially in regards to the United States. Marta Rojas worked for the paper since its founding.
