Vilpas Vikings, also referred to as Salon Vilpas, is a professional basketball club based in Salo, Finland. The team currently plays in the top level Korisliiga. The Vikings are a part of the Salon Vilpas multi-sport club. In 2021, Vilpas won its first Korisliiga championship. Korisliiga
The Korisliiga is the top-tier professional basketball league in Finland, comprising the top 12 teams of the country. In its current format, each team plays all other teams two times in the regular season, once at home and once away, for a total of 22 regular season games. The top six teams advances continues to upper stage and the bottom six teams plays lower stage after 22 games, 5 games at home and 5 games at away versus all other teams in stage. The best two teams from lower group joins to playoffs with upper group teams. Playoffs are played best of seven format, except the quarter-finals which are played best of 5 format. Pantterit holds the record for the most league titles won, with 14. The top level Finnish league for women is the Naisten Korisliiga. 2017–18 Korisliiga Season
The 2017–18 Korisliiga season was the 78th season of the top professional basketball league in Finland. The season started on 28 September 2017 and ended on 18 May 2018. Kataja Basket were the defending champions, but Kauhajoki Karhu achieved their first title ever. Format The eleven teams will play four teams against each one of the other teams for a total of 40 games. The eight best qualified teams will join the playoffs. Teams Espoo United promoted from First Division and no team was relegated. Regular season Standings Playoffs The quarter-finals and semi-finals were played in a best-of-three 1–1–1–1–1 format. The finals were played in a best-of-seven playoff format. Javontae Hawkins
Javontae Hawkins (born November 13, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for Limoges CSP of the LNB Pro A. He played his first two years of college basketball with the South Florida Bulls. Hawkins later played also with Eastern Kentucky and Fordham before going undrafted in the 2017 NBA draft. High school career Hawkins was a Four-star prospect and the No. 89 overall player in the 2012 class. He earned First Team all-state honors as a junior in Michigan while playing at Powers Catholic High School. Juwan Marquez Staten (born May 21, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Maine Celtics of the NBA G League. He played for his hometown school, the University of Dayton, through his freshman year at college. Staten later led West Virginia in points, assists, field goal percentage, and steals during the 2013–14 season. High school career Staten was known as one of the better athletes coming out of Oak Hill Academy, a school that is famed for producing several excellent basketball players.
