Vytautas Sakalauskas
Vytautas Sakalauskas (24 April 1933 in Kaunas – 29 May 2001 in Vilnius) was a Lithuanian Soviet Union, Soviet politician who was the last Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic#Chairmen, Chairman of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister) of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic before Lithuanian independence in 1990. Biography Sakalauskas served his compulsory military service in a sapper battalion in the Kirghiz SSR and Uzbek SSR between 1950 and 1953. After graduation from Kaunas University of Technology, Kaunas Polytechnic Institute in 1956, Sakalauskas worked as a master metal welder in engineering and transportation departments of various State-owned companies until 1969. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1955. From 1955 to 1983, he was a member of the Vilnius branch of the Lithuanian Communist Party, becoming the branch's first secretary in 1974. Vaidas Sakalauskas (born July 2, 1971) is a Lithuanian chess player. He received the FIDE title of International Master in 1998 and won an individual gold medal in 36th Chess Olympiad in 2004. Biography Sakalauskas is a graduate of the Faculty of History of the Vilnius Pedagogical University in 1994. From 1994 to 2006 he worked in Radviliškis sports center as chess trainer. His best-known student is a Lithuanian Grandmaster (GM) Viktorija Čmilytė. He regularly participated in Lithuanian Chess Championship. His best result is 3rd place in 2004. Stasys Sakalauskas (19 August 1946 – 25 March 2004) was a Lithuanian diplomat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania. Rytis Sakalauskas (born 27 June 1987 in Alytus) is a track and field sprint athlete who competes internationally for Lithuania. In 2010 he broke the world record in the seldom run indoor 150 m running event. On 30 May 2010 at the Lausitzer Meeting Sakalauskas broke the 100 metres national record. After a few months, a new Lithuanian 100 metres record was set by Martynas Jurgilas. At the IAAF Diamond League Sakalauskas again broke the national record – 10.24. Rimantas Sakalauskas (born 1951 in Šiauliai) is a Lithuanian sculptor and a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize. Most of Sakalauskas' works are located in cemeteries and churches. Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (LNOBT) ( lt, Lietuvos nacionalinis operos ir baleto teatras) is an opera house and ballet theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania.
