Sairbeen
Sairbeen ( ur, سیربین) is a flagship news and current affairs programme produced by BBC Urdu, currently being distributed on online platforms including YouTube. It is currently hosted by Aliya Nazki. The show first began airing in 1968 on radio, and was previously hosted by notable Pakistani broadcasters and journalists including Suraiya Shahab, Shafi Naqi Jamie, Mahpara Safdar, Ghazala Yasmeen, Waqar Ahmad Khan, Adil Shahzeb, Aamir Ahmad Khan, Ahmad Raza and Amber Shamsi. This programme is broadcast from London by BBC Urdu. History With its start in 1968, it acquired a huge following in Pakistan. During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, it was notable for broadcasting the events of the war in East Pakistan even as state media was stating that everything was fine in the eastern wing. Mahpara Safdar
Mahpara Safdar (born 15 November 1954) is a Pakistani journalist, column writer, and former newscaster at PTV, Radio Pakistan, and BBC Urdu. Early life and education Safdar was born on 15 November 1954, in Lahore. Safdar's father, Syed Hassan Abbas Zaidi, was a poet and was associated with the education department. Safdar was the fourth of six sisters. She came to Sargodha with her parents as a child and received her primary, high school, and college education from Sargodha. Ghazala Yasmeen is a Pakistani former newscaster and announcer at PTV and Radio Pakistan. Early life She was born in Delhi and then her parents moved to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. She completed her studies from University of Karachi and studied political science and graduated with a master's degree. Ghazala was doing masters then one day at home Ghazala was reading a dawn newspaper and saw an advertisement about announcers and newscaster audition at PTV Karachi Centre which was being established. She asked her father's approval and he supported her decision to become an announcer. Then she send her application to PTV Karachi Centre. Suraiya Shahab
Suraiya Shahab (1945 – 13 September 2019) was a Pakistani newscaster, poet, and novelist. She worked as a news presenter at Radio Pakistan, Pakistan Television, BBC Urdu, and German radio Deutsche Welle from the 1960s to the 1990s. Early life and education Suraiya was born in 1945. She earned her Masters in journalism and political science. Later, she was also pursuing a Ph.D. in political science but dropped out after being diagnosed with cancer. Career Suraiya began her broadcasting career in the 1960s by voicing in dramas at Radio Pakistan, Karachi. Later, she was selected for a magazine program by Radio Iran Zahedan. The program became the reason for her success and fame. After spending over ten years in Zahedan, she returned to Pakistan in 1973 and became associated with Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan until she was selected for BBC Urdu Service in 1984. The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan from 3 December 1971 until the Pakistani capitulation in Dhaka on 16 December 1971. The war began with Pakistan's Operation Chengiz Khan, consisting of preemptive aerial strikes on 11 Indian air stations. The strikes led to India declaring war on Pakistan, marking their entry into the war for East Pakistan's independence, on the side of Bengali nationalist forces. India's entry expanded the existing conflict with Indian and Pakistani forces engaging on both the eastern and western fronts. East Pakistan was a Pakistani province established in 1955 by the One Unit Scheme, One Unit Policy, renaming the province as such from East Bengal, which, in modern times, is split between India and Bangladesh. The 1999 military takeover in Pakistan was a bloodless ''coup d'état'' initiated by the military staff at the Joint Staff HQ working under Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Pervez Musharraf.
