Lac-Ashuapmushuan, Quebec
Lac-Ashuapmushuan is an unorganized territory in the Canadian province of Quebec, Canada, located in the regional county municipality of Le Domaine-du-Roy. The region had a population of 140 as of the Canada 2021 Census, and covered a land area of 14,684.28 km2. It is home to the Ashuapmushuan Wildlife Reserve. The eponymous Ashuapmushuan Lake is roughly in the centre of the territory. This lake, about long by wide, is the source of the Ashuapmushuan River. Its name is of Innu origin, meaning "place where one lies in wait for moose". In 1685, French fur traders set up a trading post near Lake Ashuapmushuan that remained almost continuously in operation until the middle of the 19th century. La Doré, Quebec
La Doré (known as Notre-Dame-de-la-Doré before 1983) is a parish municipality in Quebec, Canada, in the regional county municipality of Le Domaine-du-Roy and the administrative region of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. It is located along the banks of the Sauger River (''Rivière au Doré''), between the Ashuapmushuan River and the Laurentian Mountains to the south, in the geographic township of Dufferin. History In 1882, the Mission of Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation-de-la-Doré was established. The village got its real start in 1889 when settlers from Saint-Méthode, Saint-Félicien, Saint-Prime, and Lambton settled there and founded the Colony of Rivière-au-Doré. Ashuapmushuan River
The Ashuapmushuan River is a river in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of the Canadian provinces of Quebec. It starts at the outlet of Lake Ashuapmushuan, and flows first in a north-easterly direction for about whereafter it continues south-east to Saint-Félicien. There it drains into Lac Saint-Jean of which it is the third largest tributary after the Peribonka and Mistassini Rivers. Normandin, Quebec
Normandin is a city located on the west side of Lac Saint-Jean in the Canadian province of Quebec. Normandin is named after the surveyor Joseph-Laurent Normandin. Its history of European-Canadian settlement began in 1878 when the first pioneers arrived. Alphonse Laliberté was elected as Normandin's first mayor in 1890. In 1926, the village was set up as a municipality distinct from the township; the notary J.S.N. Turcotte occupied the function of first magistrate. Canada 2016 Census
The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. With a response rate of 98.4%, this census is said to be the best one ever recorded since the 1666 census of New France. This census was succeeded by Canada's 2021 census.
