L'Isle-aux-Coudres is a municipality in Quebec, Canada, in the Charlevoix Regional County Municipality in the Charlevoix area of the Capitale-Nationale region. It is located on and contiguous with Coudres Island (''Île aux Coudres''), located in the St. Lawrence River about south from the mainland. The island was named by Jacques Cartier during his second expedition in 1535 for the many nut-bearing trees on the island. "Coudriers" is the archaic French word for Hazel tree. Whereas the modern French spelling for "island" is ''île'', the municipality uses the old French spelling of ''Isle''. Saint-Jean-Port-Joli is a village in the Regional County Municipality of L'Islet within the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River and is the county seat. The village is located off the Trans-Canada Highway, Autoroute 20. Route 132 passes through the town. Alexis Bélanger (January 18, 1808 - September 7, 1868) was a Roman Catholic black priest and missionary; born at Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies, Lower Canada and died at Sandy Point, Newfoundland.
