Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel
Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel is a town in the Regional county municipality of Pierre-De Saurel, in Montérégie, Quebec. It is located north of the Tracy section of Sorel-Tracy. Champlain Street marks the town's southern limit from Sorel-Tracy, and the rest of the town is surrounded by water (either Saint Lawrence River or Richelieu River). As it is the case with neighboring municipalities, metallurgy plays a significant role in the town's economy. The Sorel-Tracy based QIT et Titane has a facility which occupies the western part of the town, while the eastern part of the town is essentially home to the Les Forges de Sorel company. This leaves the central part as the only portion of the town that is fully residential. The population of Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel was 1,677 as of the Canada 2011 Census. Sorel-Tracy
Sorel-Tracy (; ) is a city in southwestern Quebec, Canada and the geographical end point of the Champlain Valley. It is located at the confluence of the Richelieu River and the St. Lawrence River, on the western edge of Lac Saint-Pierre, downstream and northeast of Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 34,600. Its mayor is Patrick Péloquin and it is the seat of the Pierre-De Saurel Regional County Municipality and the judicial district of Richelieu. The city is the result of a voluntary amalgamation in 2001 between two cities, Sorel and Tracy, which developed on opposite shores of the Richelieu River: Tracy on the west shore (left) and Sorel on the east (right) shore. In 1992 Sorel had annexed the municipality of Saint-Pierre-de-Sorel; today it forms the southern part of its territory. Sorel was founded in 1642. Pierre-De Saurel is a regional county municipality in the Montérégie region in southwestern Quebec, Canada. Originally named Le Bas-Richelieu Regional County Municipality, the name change to Pierre-De Saurel took effect on January 1, 2009. Its seat is in Sorel-Tracy. It is located on the Richelieu River, downstream from La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality at the confluence of the Richelieu and Saint Lawrence River. The RCM is named after Pierre de Saurel, a captain and seigneur who rebuilt Fort Richelieu in 1647. Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the D'Autray Regional County Municipality. Its territory is located on 33 of the Sorel Islands in the Saint Lawrence River where it flows into Lac Saint-Pierre, the largest of which are ''île Madame'', ''île aux Ours'', and ''La Grande Île''. Richelieu (provincial Electoral District)
Richelieu is a provincial electoral riding in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Sorel-Tracy, Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel, Saint-Roch-de-Richelieu and Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1936. It disappeared in the 1939 election and its successor electoral district was Richelieu-Verchères. The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. With a response rate of 98.4%, this census is said to be the best one ever recorded since the 1666 census of New France. This census was succeeded by Canada's 2021 census.
