Sagomuseet
The Museum of Legends, or Sagomuseet in Swedish language, Swedish, is a museum in Ljungby, Sweden, for oral narration, fairy tales, and folklore. The museum is operated by the UNESCO Accredited Advisor and non-profit association ''Sagobygden'' that protects the oral narrative and contributes to the continuation of the oral narrative traditions. Together with the Berättarnätet Kronoberg, Storytelling Network Kronoberg they also arrange the Storytelling Festival in Ljungby. In March 2017 the Government of Sweden nominated ''Sagobygden'', the operator of ''the Museum of Legends'', to UNESCO's register of good examples on the preservation of intangible heritage. While the museum itself offer an condensed experience of the regional folklore, the ''Storytelling Network Kronoberg'' maintain several legendary places around Kronoberg. Ljungby
Ljungby () is the central locality of Ljungby Municipality, Kronoberg County, Sweden, with 15,785 inhabitants in 2015. Ljungby was instituted in 1829 as a ''köping'', or ''market town'', and did not become a municipality of its own when the first local government acts took effect in 1863, but retained part of the surrounding rural municipality of the same name. In 1936 Ljungby got the title ''stad'', Swedish for ''Town'' or ''City''. Since 1971 Ljungby is the seat of Ljungby Municipality. Much of the town center was destroyed in the city fire of 1953. At the time of the rebuilding, the modern style used, characterized by among other ''Hotel Terazza'', still remains controversial locally. Storytelling Festival
A storytelling festival is an event that features local, regional and/or nationally known oral storytellers. Each storyteller will have a scheduled amount of time to share a story (or stories) with an audience. The featured storytellers are often professional performing artists, but semi-professional or amateur storytellers may also be included among the events. A festival may be a single or multiple day event. Depending upon the venue, the festival schedule is organized around blocks of time for the storytellers to share their stories. The storytellers may rotate between smaller venues or the crowds may move from venue to venue. Often storytelling festivals will include an open mic event, sometimes referred to as "story swapping," where amateurs from the audience may share their own stories. Folklore
Folklore is shared by a particular group of people; it encompasses the traditions common to that culture, subculture or group. This includes oral traditions such as tales, legends, proverbs and jokes. They include material culture, ranging from traditional building styles common to the group. Oral Storytelling
Oral storytelling is an ancient and intimate tradition between the storyteller and their audience. The storyteller and the listeners are physically close, often seated together in a circular fashion. The intimacy and connection is deepened by the flexibility of oral storytelling which allows the tale to be moulded according to the needs of the audience and the location or environment of the telling. Listeners also experience the urgency of a creative process taking place in their presence and they experience the empowerment of being a part of that creative process.
