Sagene IF
Sagene is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. The area became part of the city of Oslo (then Christiania) in 1859. The name Sagene itself is the plural of the Norwegian word for "saw", reflecting all the old industrial mechanical saws powered by the river Akerselva in this area in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Area The borough of Sagene includes the neighborhoods of Sagene, Bjølsen, Iladalen (Ila), Sandaker, Åsen, and Torshov. It is the smallest borough of Oslo, but compared to its relatively small size, it has a noteworthy population by Norwegian standards. In the west its border is the street Uelandsgate and the cemetery (''gravlund'') Nordre gravlund. In the north it borders Tåsen and Storo. The border then follows the valley Torshovdalen in the east, and borders the areas of Rodeløkka and Grünerløkka is the south. List Of Boroughs Of Oslo
The 15 boroughs of Oslo were created on 1 January 2004. They each have an elected local council with limited responsibilities. In addition is Marka (1610 residents), that is administered by several boroughs; and Sentrum (1471 residents, 1.8 km2) that is partially administered by St. Hanshaugen, and in part directly by the city council. Skeid Fotball
Skeid is a Norwegian football club from Oslo that currently plays in 1. divisjon ( OBOS-ligaen), the second tier of the Norwegian football league system. Its current home field is Nordre Åsen, after the club stopped playing at Bislett after the 2012 season. In past decades it has gained a reputation as a talent factory for the larger clubs in Norwegian football, and it has produced several players for the national team such as Daniel Braaten, Daniel Fredheim Holm, Omar Elabdellaoui and Mohammed Abdellaoue. Other notable players include Paul Miller. Skeid played in 1. divisjon in 2009 after a short stint in the 2. divisjon. They finished champions of the Second Group of 2. divisjon in 2008. Iladalen Park (Oslo)
Iladalen Park is a park in the borough of Iladalen in the district of Sagene in Oslo, Norway. The 27.9 acre park was established in 1948. The park is the centerpiece of the overall planned residential facility in Iladalen, and is the city's best preserved park in the functionalist style, with simplicity and objectivity in design. To the north of the park is a 3.3-acre playground, with bronze sculpture "Kalv" by Ørnulf Bast Ørnulf Bast (25 January 1907 – 28 October 1974) was a Norwegian sculptor and painter particularly known for his public monuments. Sagene Church
Sagene Church is located in Oslo, Norway. The church is one of the most rugged and prominent in Oslo. The church was built in gothic revival style and it was consecrated in 1891. It was designed by architect Christian Fürst in neo-Gothic style. There are 600 seats. Fountain and landscaping around the church were conducted from 1891 to 1895, and upgraded from 1923. The altarpiece was executed by the painter Christen Brun (1828-1905) and shows the removal of Jesus from the cross. At the choir stairs a large baptismal fresco with a dove, the symbol of the Holy Ghost, created by Carsten Lien in 1919, restored in 1959. The pulpit is octagonal, made of pine and is from 1890. The church has a number of stained-glass windows. a large rose window above the main entrance, four windows in the middle of the choir with Old and New Testament motifs. Oskar Braaten
Oskar Braaten (25 November 1881 – 17 July 1939) was a Norwegian novelist and playwright. Biography Oskar Alexander Braaten was born in Sagene, a borough of the city of Oslo. Sagene was one of Norway's oldest industrial areas dating to the mid-19th century. Oskar Braaten attended school in Sagene until he was 15 years old. In 1899, he was hired by antiquarian bookstore Bertrand Jensen, where he remained until 1910. Though born and raised in Oslo, Braaten joined the mostly rural landsmål-movement. Braaten is best known for his popular plays and novels depicting the life of factory workers alongside Akerselva in Oslo. He published seven novels between 1917 and 1925. Braaten convey a new image of the Oslo not seen before in literature. Braaten was able to provide vivid and richly nuanced images of working-class life on the east side of Oslo during a historical period of industrialization.
