Safonovo (russian: Сафо́ново) is a town and the administrative center of Safonovsky District in Smolensk Oblast, Russia, located on the Vopets River northeast of Smolensk, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: Climate Safonovo has a warm-summer humid continental climate (''Dfb'' in the Köppen climate classification). History The village of Safonovo was first mentioned in 1859. In 1918, it became the administrative center of Safonovskaya Volost, and since 1929 it served as the administrative center of Safonovsky District. In the 1930s, large deposits of brown coal were discovered there. In 1938, the village was granted urban-type settlement status, and in 1952—town status. Severomorsk
Severomorsk (russian: Северомо́рск), known as Vayenga () until April 18, 1951, is a closed town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. Severomorsk is the main administrative base of the Russian Northern Fleet. The town is located on the coast of the Barents Sea along the Kola Bay northeast of Murmansk, the administrative centre of the oblast, to which it is connected by railway and a motorway. History Early settlement The first settlement on the site of the modern city arose between 1896 and 1897. It was named Vayenga (), after the river, the name of which itself comes from the Sami "vayongg", meaning "doe" or "reindeer". In 1917, only thirteen people lived in the settlement, who engaged in hunting, fishing and animal husbandry. Yefimovsky (russian: Ефимовский) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Boksitogorsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the Sominka River, in the basin of the Chagodoshcha River. Municipally, it is incorporated as Yefimovskoye Urban Settlement, one of the three urban settlements in the district. Population: History In the 19th century, the place where Yefimovsky is currently located, was a part of Sominskaya Volost of Ustyuzhensky Uyezd, Novgorod Governorate. In 1918, it was transferred in newly created Cherepovets Governorate. In the second half of the 19th century (the dates of 1862 and 1882 are mentioned in the sources) a glass-making factory was built by Lanko, a German merchant.
