Safaga
Port Safaga, also known as Safaga ( ar, سفاجا ', ), is a town in Egypt, on the coast of the Red Sea, located south of Hurghada. This small port is also a tourist area that consists of several bungalows and rest houses, including the Safaga Hotel, with a capacity of 48 rooms (126 beds). Having numerous phosphate mines, it is regarded as the phosphates export center. A paved road of connects Safaga to Qena of Upper Egypt. History The town was founded between 282 BC and 268 BC, by Satyrus ( grc, Σάτυρος). It was called Philotera ( grc, Φιλωτέρα) in honor of the deceased sister of the Pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus. Stephanus of Byzantium write that it was also called Philoterida ( grc, Φιλωτερίδα). Safaga City is considered one of the most important therapeutic tourist centres, as special medical researches have proved the potential of attracting international tourism to Safaga. Red Sea Governorate
Red Sea Governorate ( ar, محافظة البحر الأحمر ) is one of the 27 governorates (States) of Egypt. Located between the Nile and the Red Sea in the southeast of the country, its southern border forms part of Egypt's border with Sudan. Its capital and largest city is Hurghada. Municipal divisions The governorate is divided into municipal divisions with a total estimated population as of July 2017 of 361,480. Duba, Saudi Arabia
Duba ( ar, ضبا) is a small city on the northern Red Sea coast, of Saudi Arabia. It is in Tabuk Province. Local citizens describe it as ''The Pearl of the Red Sea''. The population of Duba is about 22,000. History The first reference to Duba, under this name, is from 1203. However, the Valley of Salma and Valley of Kafafah were already known many centuries before. The ancient Greek scholar Ptolemy mentioned a trade route leading from Kafafah to Lihyan (today's Al-`Ula). Sheikh Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi wrote about Duba in 1790, in his account of going to Mecca for the Hajj. Historically it is part of Madian; the city is mentioned in Islamic scriptures. Qena ( ar, قنا ' , locally: ; cop, ⲕⲱⲛⲏ ''Konē'') is a city in Upper Egypt, and the capital of the Qena Governorate. Philotera
Philotera ( el, Φιλωτέρα, born 315/309 BC-probably after 282 BC and before 268 BC) was a Greek Macedonian noblewoman and a Greek Egyptian princess of the Ptolemaic dynasty. Philotera was the daughter of Ptolemy I Soter and Berenice I of Egypt. She had one older sister, Arsinoe II, and a younger brother, the future Pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus. From her parents' previous marriages, Philotera had various half-maternal and half-paternal siblings. Little is known of her life. Philotera died sometime after the accession of Ptolemy II to the Ptolemaic throne and before Arsinoe II died. The fact that Philotera died before her sister did is demonstrated by a hymn written by Callimachus on the death of Arsinoe II. After Philotera died, Ptolemy II deified her as a goddess.
