Saeed Jeffery
Saeed Jeffery is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'', played by Andrew Johnson (actor), Andrew Johnson from 19 February to 26 December 1985. Saeed is the original owner of the First til Last grocery store. He is never truly accepted in Walford, and his arranged marriage ends in divorce after it is discovered that he has been making obscene phone calls to women. He leaves Walford in disgrace, leaving his business to his wife. Storylines London-born Saeed claims to be a Cockney but is looked upon as South Asian people, Asian by everyone in Walford. Inexperienced and naive, he took over the family business (the corner shop at 71 Bridge Street) when his parents retired to their native Bangladesh. Andrew Johnson (actor)
Andrew Johnson (born in London, 1955) is a British actor of South Asian descent. He is most famous for being one of the original cast members of '' EastEnders'', playing the shop-keeper Saeed Jeffery from the first episode in February 1985 until December 1985. During his time on the show, Johnson's troubled character struggled in an arranged marriage to an unwilling wife, Naima (played by Shreela Ghosh). After leaving ''EastEnders'' Johnson moved to Hollywood, but a successful film career failed to materialise. He eventually got minor roles in the amateur detective series ''Murder She Wrote'' and later in the ITV drama, ''Inspector Morse Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse, GM, is the eponymous fictional character in the series of detective novels by British author Colin Dexter. Shreela Ghosh
Shreela Ghosh (born 25 September 1962) is a former dancer, actress and reporter, became publicly known in the United Kingdom when she was cast as Naima Jeffery in 1985, one of the original characters in the BBC soap opera, '' EastEnders''. She has since given up performing to work as an arts executive. She was the first programme director for Arts and Heritage at the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, and went on to become the Deputy Director for the Institute of International Visual Arts ( InIVA). She now is the Director of the Free Word Centre. Career Ghosh began her working life as a performer, a classical (Bharatanatyam and Kathak) Indian dancer and singer. Anthony John Holland (18 January 1940 – 28 November 2007) was a British screenwriter, best known as a writer and co-creator (with Julia Smith (producer), Julia Smith) of the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. Early life Holland was the oldest of three children born to John and Pat Holland, with his younger twin brothers Allan and Bryn. Debbie "Debs" Wilkins is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera '' EastEnders'', played by Shirley Cheriton, from 21 March 1985 to 14 May 1987. Debbie is Walford's first upwardly mobile character. June Brown
June Muriel Brown (16 February 1927 – 3 April 2022) was an English actress and author. She was best known for her role as Dot Cotton on the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' (1985–1993; 1997–2020). Dorothy "Dot" Branning (also Cotton) is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera, '' EastEnders'', played by June Brown. In a special episode entitled ''EastEnders: Dot's Story'' (2003) a young Dot was played by Tallulah Pitt-Brown in flashbacks. Linda Davidson
Linda Davidson (born 18 June 1964 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian-British former actress and writer. She played the wayward punk Mary Smith in the BBC soap opera, ''EastEnders''. Mary was one of the serial's original characters; Davidson played her from March 1985 to May 1988 and again for one episode in 2019. Away from ''EastEnders'', Davidson appeared in various television programmes and on stage. However, she stopped performing in the late 1990s.
