Sacred Heart Academy is an all-girls preparatory school located on Cathedral Avenue, in Hempstead, New York, United States. It is private and Catholic. Hempstead is a village located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. Alice McDermott (born June 27, 1953) is an American writer and university professor. For her 1998 novel ''Charming Billy'' she won an American Book Award and the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction. McDermott is Johns Hopkins University's Richard A. Macksey Professor of the Humanities. Life McDermott was born in Brooklyn, New York.
