Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL; North German Lloyd) was a German shipping company. It was founded by Hermann Henrich Meier and Eduard Crüsemann in Bremen on 20 February 1857. It developed into one of the most important German shipping companies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was instrumental in the economic development of Bremen and Bremerhaven. On 1 September 1970, the company merged with Hamburg America Line (HAPAG) to form Hapag-Lloyd AG. __NOTOC__ The Sablatnig SF-1 was a reconnaissance seaplane built in Germany during the First World War.Taylor 1989, p.787 Development It was a conventional two-bay biplane with staggered wings of unequal span and a fuselage of particularly sleek design. The pilot and observer sat in open cockpits in tandem, and the undercarriage consisted of twin pontoons braced to the underside of the fuselage and to wings. Operational history Sablatnig delivered the SF-1 prototype to the SVK (''Seeflugzeug Versuchs Kommando'' – "Seaplane Testing Command") in October 1915 under the naval serial number 490. It was finally accepted into active naval service a full two years later, in October 1917. Sablatnig SF-2
__NOTOC__ The Sablatnig SF-2 was a reconnaissance seaplane produced in Germany during the First World War.Taylor 1989, p.787 Development A refined version of the Sablatnig SF-1, the SF-2 featured a new empennage and was fitted with a radio transmitter.Gray & Thetford 1962, p.539Nowarra 1966, p.78 The prototype (serial 580) had a smaller tail-fin and rudder than the SF-1, but production examples added a large ventral fin. Construction was of wood, skinned i fabric. Operational history Sablatnig delivered six aircraft (navy serials 580–585) between June and September 1916. These were followed by ten machines built under licence by LVG (serials 791–800) between October and December, and ten more built by Luft-Fahrzeug-Gesellschaft, LFG (serials 705–714) between April and May the following year. The Sablatnig SF-5 was a reconnaissance seaplane produced in Germany during the First World War.Taylor 1989, p.787 Design and development Designed to meet a specification by the Imperial German Navy for a higher-powered replacement for the Sablatnig SF-2s then in service, the SF-5 was a very similar aircraft other than in its choice of engine.Nowarra 1966, p.64Gray & Thetford 1962, p.542 The first batch (serials 968–987) were delivered between January and May 1917, built in the Navy's HFT classification (unarmed reconnaissance aircraft equipped with wireless transmitter and receiver).
