Echo, Texas (Orange County)
Echo, Texas ( Orange County) is a populated place which was founded in 1880. The Louisiana Western Extension Railroad Company was given the task of completing the last section of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad crossing the Sabine River, linking Houston with New Orleans. The swampland directly east of Orange was considered unsuitable for the railway construction, so the company pushed the line to the north and east and established a quarantine station. The site was given the name ''Echo'', because the sounds of the railway reverberated in the nearby river swamp. Years later, the quarantine station would be removed, but this site located three miles northeast of Orange would still function as a freight yard for the Southern Pacific Railroad as well as an industrial site. Buna ( ) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jasper County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,137 at the 2020 census. History The Beaumont Lumber Company mill in southern Jasper County was first called "Carrolla" for the Carroll family, prominent Beaumont lumbermen and industrialists. The site was subsequently renamed "Buna", however, in honor of one of the family's cousins, Buna Corley. Geography Buna is located in southern Jasper County at (30.439390, -93.966199). Lemonville, Texas
Lemonville is a ghost town that was the site of the Lemon Lumber Company in northern Orange County, Texas, United States, in the southeastern part of the state. Sometimes referred to as ''Lemon'', it is located north of Orange and just east of Mauriceville. The town plat was filed in 1901 by a man named William Manuel, with the location chosen for its proximity to the tracks of the Kansas City Southern Railroad. In 1902, when the population was about 300, a post office was established, with Cornelius P. Ryan as first postmaster. In 1900, the mill had a capacity of per day. The lumber baron Alexander Gilmer purchased the mill in 1904, and by the following year production was increased to per day with the addition of new equipment.
