Sabine Gerke
Sabine Gerke-Hochdörffer (born 15 November 1971) is a German former professional tennis player. Biography Gerke, who grew up in Zweibrücken, made her WTA Tour main-draw debut at the 1989 German Open, where she took 11th seed Bettina Fulco to three sets in a first-round loss. In 1990, she won an ITF tournament in Madeira, the first of her four ITF singles titles. She reached her career best ranking of 187 in 1991, after making the second round of the Oslo Open. A two-time Universiade medalist for Germany, she won doubles bronze medals at both the 1993 and 1995 tournaments. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Anna-Karin Svensson (born 8 May 1974) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Biography Svensson played on the professional tour in the 1990s, with a best ranking in singles of 280 in the world. As a doubles player she had a breakthrough year in 1996 when she won seven ITF titles, to reach a career high ranking of 160. Across 1996 and 1997 she featured in eight Fed Cup ties for Sweden. Linda Jansson
Linda Jansson (born 10 September 1974) is a Finnish former professional tennis player. Biography Jansson comes from Åland, a Swedish speaking autonomous region of Finland. As a professional player she was most successful in doubles, with a best ranking of 233 and six ITF titles. She played the doubles rubber in ten Fed Cup ties for Finland, including a World Group quarterfinal against Australia in 1993, which was the team's best ever run in the competition. Outside of tennis, she also competed in the sport of racketlon and was the world champion in 2006, by which stage she was competing for Sweden. Since retiring she has remained involved in tennis, as an administrator and coach in Sweden. Nannie de Villiers (born Esmé de Villiers, 5 January 1976) is a former professional tennis player who represented South Africa. She was born in neighbouring Namibia but moved at a young age.
