Schwimmverein Würzburg 05 (swimming club Würzburg 05), shortly Würzburg 05, is a German water sports club. History The club founded in 1905, is one of the largest swimming clubs in Germany and one of the largest in Europe. The SVW 05 built in 1968, the first club's indoor swimming pool (25m pool) in Germany. In 1972, the construction of an additional own 50m indoor sports pool, which has been extended in the following years, among other things, a gym and a sauna area. In addition to its core sports there are the departments triathlon, synchronized swimming, running club and fitness. Water polo The "zero five" have since its foundation in 1905, spawned a variety of Olympic athletes in swimming and water polo. The association is a total of five times German water polo champions (DWL) (1970, 1974, 1976, 1977 & 1978). Deutsche Wasserball-Liga
The Deutsche Wasserball-Liga (DWL) is the premier category in the league system for water polo clubs in Germany. The men's championship was founded in 1912, but only two editions took place. It was resumed in 1919 and has taken place regularly since except for 1935, 1944 and 1945. Four-times LEN Euroleague, European champions WF Spandau 04 has dominated the championship for the past three decades, with a record 37 titles since 1979. The women's championship was founded in 1982. SV Blau-Weiss Bochum, Blau-Weiss Bochum is its leading team, having won all editions from 2000 to 2011. LEN Champions League
The LEN Champions League is the top-tier European professional water polo club competition with teams from up to 18 countries. It is organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation. The competition started in 1963 as European Cup. A change of name and format occurred in 1996, with the competition being renamed Champions League and the final four system being established as the format of choice, for the first time during the 1996–97 LEN Champions League. From 2003 to 2011 the competition was named LEN Euroleague (with the change of name being simply a re-branding) and from 2011 and on LEN Champions League, its current name. Thomas Lurz (born 28 November 1979) is a German swimmer who specializes in long-distance freestyle swimming, especially open water swimming. Lurz lives in Gerbrunn and swims for the SV Würzburg 05 sports club.
